I recently returned from #Haiti, where for the last 4 years I have been studying the gangs for @CrisisGroup: where they come from, how they have evolved, how they operate today, and what their goals are. A thread ⬇️

#protectionpourlapopulationenmanquedetout. @pnh_officiel @MJSPHaiti @citoyendidier

Thanks to @amanpour for bringing our @CrisisGroup OpEd in the @nytimes to the attention of #Haiti’s PM @citoyendidier. Whatever security gains the GSF attains need to be consolidated by a demobilization process that will require transparent talks with the gangs.

Haiti can’t drone strike its way to peace. Bringing gang members back into society won’t be easy. But force alone will only prolong the country’s ordeal. Our new op-ed in @nytimes, with @renaticas 🔻 nytimes.com/2026/04/10/opini…

At least 70 people killed in brutal and coordinated attacks against several localities in Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite : this blind violence is a further reminder of the urgent need for increased support for Haiti against the scourge of gangs and the networks that support them.
