Michael Gann, 55, has been charged with manufacturing and attempting to detonate homemade bombs across New York City. Prosecutors allege he purchased explosive chemicals online, crafted at least seven devices, and stored several on SoHo rooftops—throwing one onto subway tracks near the Williamsburg Bridge. Though no injuries occurred, officials stressed the grave danger involved. Gann faces three federal charges and up to 40 years in prison if convicted. Authorities say he conducted searches on explosives and firearms, and misled officers about the bombs’ whereabouts. He was arrested near the rooftop stash in early June with another device on him. One of the explosives reportedly contained 600 times the legal limit of consumer firework material.
