It's a good question. It's dirtier and more expensive -- and no, it's not more reliable in the heat or cold: nrdc.org/media/what-wright-g…
A genuine question for free market advocates: why are we subsidizing costly coal while sidelining lower-cost clean energy? It doesn't sound like capitalism - sounds more like policy failure. open.substack.com/pub/markte…

Seems important!
President Trump is pulling every lever to boost coal power. The market has other ideas. Solar just overtook coal in the US electricity mix, the first time that's happened in a calendar month. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

With 500 attacks in just 500 days, the Trump administration has cemented their place as the worst in history for our environment and public health. And in courtrooms across the country, we’ve been fighting back every step of the way.

“Energy shouldn’t need subsidy” -- President Trump speaking at an event to announce new subsidies for coal plants.

I am going to be waiting and watching for all the tut-tutters of tax incentives for solar and wind to condemn Trump's $700 million bailout of coal plants. Hard to imagine a dumber policy, but still nothing yet from @mattyglesias @atrembath @TomJPyle that I have seen

lol. OK, let's try it and see.
Bezos on CNBC: "You could double the taxes I pay, and it's not gonna help that teacher in Queens. I promise you."

This seems bad. Is this bad? 🧐
New documents reveal the U.S. deal with TotalEnergies canceling offshore wind leases actually required no new investment from the company Total only has to simply submit receipts for oil and gas investments it was already making, including before the deal Bombshell @emilypont

This is the first time in 25 years that I didn't get a @washingtonpost delivered to my front walkway. Sad to let it go, for sure, but I couldn't stomach the wire stories in Sports and Style and the obnoxious editorials.

really good story from @Sammy_Roth
Surprised myself with this story. Went into the desert expecting to write about a terrible solar project that would harm bighorn sheep...and ended up writing why California should maybe approve it anyway. In the Anthropocene, there are no easy choices: climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/…

No. We had a plan: the Green New Deal, where an emboldened govt leads a public-and-private overhaul of our infrastructure. This was framed in terms of jobs, economic uplift, and community development, not CO2. Corporate Dems defeated that project—doesn’t mean it never existed!

One could even say that all of the wind, solar, and now batteries installed in Texas has been a long term Act of Inflation Reduction, although it doesn’t roll off the tongue
Remarkable that realized ERCOT wholesale prices (2025 in orange) are near inflation-adjusted lows since 2012, even as Texas has seen the fastest load growth in the country. It highlights the upside of a policy and business climate that broadly supports growth.

I scoffed when @TedNordhaus said in 2024 that Trump could bring about a global recession and thus lower emissions, but here we are. To be clear: This is not ideal!
Nobody would have designed a carbon tax with this much volatility and loss of life, but I'm still wondering how does $100/barrel oil works out in terms of dollars per ton of CO2

Great article from @Noahpinion today on electric vehicles and why they made sense even before the recent spike in gasoline prices. Here's one chart that really demonstrates this....

The essay is intended to signal that reforms are absolutely needed (especially for clean energy) and should be done the right way. Let's chat about this over coffee. (And regarding your reference to my last tweet, fair and funny!)
