Wait so in California a 17-year-old can drive a car but can't be a passenger in a Waymo by herself?

Nuro test vehicle in SF. It’s great to live somewhere you’re constantly getting peeks at the future. (Even if you can’t decipher 90% of the billboards.)

I schedule a @Waymo for 4:15, it arrives at 4:09 and is leaving 2 mins before the scheduled arrival time? And then they charge me for being on time??

My letter to the editor was published today in the @sfchronicle - "These riders can’t use Waymo’s driverless cars and are treated like second-class customers." I detail how @Waymo continues to showcase a technologically impressive product that systematically excludes the most Disabled people at scale -- those with large, heavy, custom medically-necessary power wheelchairs that can't be folded or stowed like luggage. A small number of human-driven WAVs in a few markets is not equivalent access and telling Disabled people to wait to be included while existing accessible infrastructure suffers. Waymo should deploy autonomous wheelchair-accessible vehicles at a comparable price, availability and reliability wherever it operates standard service. Waymo has purchased Apple's 5,500-acre self-driving car Arizona proving ground for $220 million. The location includes a 115-acre city course, a 35-acre vehicle dynamics area, a 4-mile oval track, and a freeway course for AV testing. Apple spent 10 years and $10 billion on its self-driving car project before cancelling it because it couldn't achieve its objectives. techcrunch.com/2026/06/08/wa…
