ALT The words "Urgent! Dear UCLA Mathematics Department, Chemistry Department and Academic Senate, Math and chemistry students and faculty have reported that due to department policy, people with COVID are being forced to either take their exams in person or miss the final and get a permanent Incomplete marking on their transcript. As a result of this policy, students will end up with Incompletes and be at high risk of being discriminated against as a result, others may ignore COVID symptoms out of fear of missing their final and end up spreading COVID, and professors are being denied the right to protect and be fair to their students. In order to protect the health and rights of students and faculty, we call on the Math Department, the Chem Department and all other departments to allow and require that accommodations such as online testing be provided to people who have COVID or are immunocompromised. Students and faculties' rights must be respected!
In solidarity,"
ALT A signatories list: "Carl King Jr., USAC President “The Math and Chem departments should provide accommodations to students who are facing issues as a result of the pandemic immediately. Student safety is a nonnegotiable factor and students should not have to worry about choosing between their own safety and school grades. If the Math and Chem departments are unable to provide accommodations they should release an official statement detailing an attempt to provide accommodations and the reason why they can’t.”-Carl King Phoebe Chiu, Facilities Commissioner on the Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC) Eliana Sisman, General Representative 3 on USAC and Disabled Students Union member Daniela Anais Cortez Bravo, Academic Affairs Commissioner on USAC My-Lan Le, Internal Vice President of USAC"

The math & chemistry departments @uclamath@uclachem is endangering its students.
Students have reported that a Math professor is forcing students to take finals in-person despite multiple people in that lecture testing positive for Covid. Similar reports coming from chem.
According to some students talking about it on reddit a couple of proffesors have said that whoever tests positive and misses the final will get an incomplete for the class and have to retake the final in the fall @UCLA really doesn't care about students

If you are a current student or alum of these departments, or simply want to support these students, send an email to the math and chemistry departments: Tell them they must stop endangering students.

hey @UCLA researchers in epi, public health, infectious disease/virology, etc who are concerned with UCLA's reckless covid policies – DM me or @dsuucla.
(Or any non-UCLA researchers who agree their anti-mask policies are dangerous!)
ALT A two-panel meme that shows a young brown-haired girl pushing a blonde wheelchair user around the grass of a lush mountain. The brown-haired girl asks, "want to know about our new COVID plan for spring quarter?" The blonde girl answers, "Yes!"
In the next panel, you see the wheelchair was actually on the edge of a cliff, and the brunette girl has tossed the disabled girl off the cliff.
UCI has announced they are dumping universal masking protections, effective March 19.
This is a shameful, ableist decision.
Admin have also yet again failed to consult students about COVID protocols, despite sustained efforts from @asuci and @agsuci.

Over 6000 cases confirmed at @UCLA since the quarter began, but an email from admin stated they're "optimistic" about easing indoor masking requirements for spring quarter. DSU condemns any intention to loosen mask mandates. Read our statement below:
