Repeating a mistake as recent as RoboDebt, breaching the recommendations and killing off your own reform program is one helluva way to lose an election in less than two years. But here we are. Tell me - is it time for a new set of Teals? A set of disabled people who might be as remarkable as Senator Jordon Steele-John? We have two years. Time to organise. Time to sign up every Australian who has never voted before, because they were never empowered to do so, or were shut out, shut in, and shut up. Time to #CripTheVote#RoboDebt #RoboNDIS linkedin.com/pulse/robodebt-… via @LinkedIn

Iowa isn’t perfect (far from it) but allowing mail voting after caucuses is an obvious move other states should embrace to make voting accessible to disabled voters #CripTheVote
Vermont is home to one of the oldest and most cherished forms of local elections in the country: town meetings. But, they predate all disability civil rights laws—which can be painfully clear to disabled people, who face a wide range of often prohibitive access issues when trying to participate. motherjones.com/politics/202…

Forrest Gump ran toward danger in Vietnam. Your boss ran to his podiatrist crying bone spurs. Petty insults at the expense of people with disabilities won't change the fact that you're risking troops' lives to boost Chevron's stock price. It's my job to hold you accountable.

@KyDems Actually, when someone new is running for office, we ask about their position on disability rights . It can be life or death for people with disabilities. People with disabilities vote. Their vote is their voice. They have been prevented from voting in the past. Voting is a sacred right we cherish. #cripTheVote #DisabilityRights

This is also part of her @alicewong legacy, sadly. People with large platforms can influence the vote, and I've been told several times myself here. She discouraged people from voting Democrat. That is never OK. It's our choice and right alone, and here we have consequences. I never tell anyone how to vote. Sacred vote Did Alice discourage people from voting Democrat? Yes, disability rights activist Alice Wong stated in January 2024 that she would not be voting Democratic in the last election, after having voted Democrat in every election since she was 18. Wong expressed disappointment with the Biden administration's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and the broader societal push to return to "normal" while leaving high-risk individuals behind. She clarified that she was sharing her own personal decision and story, and was not explicitly telling others how to vote. Wong co-founded the nonpartisan online movement #CripTheVote, which aims to encourage all people with disabilities to exercise their right to vote and engages voters and politicians in discussions about disability issues, without endorsing a specific party. Throughout her activism, she focused on dismantling systemic ableism and increasing the political and cultural visibility of disabled people.

Alice led with conviction, inspiring all of us with her wit and sharp criticism of ableism. Take some time to read her books, the Disability Visibility Project, and other publications. Honor Alice and yourself by fighting for disabled spaces and remember to #CripTheVote.
It’s been a pleasure working with Lex and everyone in the politics vertical at Teen Vogue. I’m heartbroken that my column, Disability Visibility, is gone. Teen Vogue was one of the few places that published disabled journalists regularly.

All I will say today is….#cripthevote don’t just mourn us when we are gone. Don’t just say our voices mattered when we can’t speak anymore. Fight for us now. Don’t let us die without services, care, or laws that will give us access to a life. Healthcare for all.
