Nobody would say Smash 64 is better than its successors (maybe Brawl), and yet Ocarina of Time remains akin to a cow living in India.

This is the best Zelda game. You are allowed to have a personal favorite that isn't this one, but Link to the Past is one of the few perfect games ever made. It ages like fine wine. It's pixel perfect graphics and wonderful soundtrack are timeless. It's gameplay is laser smooth. In 40 years it will still be perfect. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

Advent Children isn’t perfect. But this ending is. The promise of a brighter future, together, that it’s okay to go on, that its okay to live when others couldn’t and that even though we all lose the people we love in life, they’ll always be with us in our hearts cheering us on. Give me this over everyone is alive, everything is perfect ending any day of the week, this ending fits the game so much more. Its bittersweet and hopeful.

I'm not a Zelda fan, but this title really bothers me. I mean, bringing back new versions of classic games without treating them as replacements for the originals, and especially without distorting what made them special is something I'm completely fine with. Some recent examples that handle this the right way are the Dragon Quest I & II Remakes, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, and Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. Pay attention to that last title. It's called Reimagined, and I love that because it makes it crystal clear what it actually is: a new interpretation of the original. That's a great approach. There's also the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved which never tries to present itself as the "real" Halo 1. It makes it clear that it's a new version of the game, with additional content and story elements that don't undermine or overwrite something that has existed for more than 25 years. But this Zelda remake? Why call it Ocarina of Time? No. Ocarina of Time is a 1998 game and one of the defining classics of its generation. That is Ocarina of Time. In my opinion, they need to add another subtitle to distinguish it from the original. The way they've presented it make it feel like they're trying to follow the same disgusting path Capcom has gone down: acting as if modern versions can replace timeless classics simply because they have "better" graphics.

The Ocarina of Time remake should be three games (child Link, Forest, Fire, & Water Temples, Spirit and Shadow Temple) and sold as $80 releases. Each title should require an Internet connection to play but have no online features besides an in-game store that sells Heart Pieces.
