I liked how Ralph Bakshi gets the appeal of anime at a time when many of his contemporaries in animation were dissmisive of it

Max Fleischer doesn’t have a star and his team created the rotoscope (motion capture), bouncing ball, brought the first adaptation of animated ‘Superman’, pioneer in the field of animation, etc
Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 10th.

Pretty wild update on AnimEigo’s Vampire Princess Miyu release that was announced back in February 2025: “Well over a year ago, waaaay back in February 2025, we announced the restored HD Blu-ray release of Vampire Princess Miyu. And since then... nothing. What happened? Welp, we finished the disc, and sent the packaging off to Japan for it to get approved, which is a requirement when you work with anime professionally. We had some good back-and-forth initially, but ultimately we simply could not get this approval to the finish line. Due to the way the copyright system works over there, we hit a procedural log jam. We’ve made absolutely no progress in over a year. We’ve done everything we could think of to rectify the situation, but unfortunately, this is not going to get fixed. Worse, we discovered that our contract for the show (which we inherited from the previous owners of AnimEigo), ran out much sooner than we expected: next year. That means that we’re basically out of time to do a proper release. But we had this gorgeous HD remaster of a gorgeous show, just sitting there. The wall we hit with approvals would likely make it impossible for anyone to release it in the future. What a waste! So we’re doing something ridiculous. We’re releasing this disc on our own site, without artwork or design to approve. Yes, it’s a completely blank cover.” Pre-order link: mediaocd.com/product/vampire… #anime #vampire #bluray #physicalmedia #cartoon #vampireprincessmiyu #Horror #HorrorCommunity #FilmCommunity #4KBluray #4KUltraHD #physicalmedia #FilmstaGram #physicalmediaforever #bluraycollector #bluraycollection #Horror #HorrorMovie #HorrorMovies #Film #Cinema #CinemaLovers #FilmTwitter #Cinephile #MovieBuff #NowWatching

I have decided to drop out of the AI program at Amazon. I will not be making a Punky Duck series. Actions speak louder than words. My intent was to showcase artists, both new and seasoned, both inside and outside the studios, driving this new tech. My sincerest apology to those I upset. I promise to do better moving forward. Thank you for your patience with me. I will try harder.
Learning a lot from many of you. Thank you. Lots of information that I'm digesting wholeheartedly. I am absolutely understanding the concern of using AI to assist an animation pipeline. For all those showing me grace, I really appreciate it. I have a lot to think about.

speaking as the editor of this post, if you're an editor writing great headlines and not an editor shooting the shit with writers about puns for a half hour until someone farts out something genius, you're not doing it right
There are days when I miss being an editor and I particularly loved writing headlines. Whoever did this, I hope they took the rest of the day off.

oh man what DON'T my colleagues Kathryn and Jackson remember about KINGS vulture.com/article/kings-nb…
No one: Me: Remember the short-lived 2009 NBC drama, KINGS — a retelling of David & Goliath but in an alternate reality where the United States is a monarchy and it’s ruled by a king played by Ian McShane but also starred a young Sebastian Stan as his closeted prince son???

The Lord of the Rings documentaries, commentaries and special features included with the DVDs are like film school in a box and we're never going to see their like again.
Peter Jackson laments the death of physical media: “You can get Blu-rays and DVDs, but they’re almost a niche product for aficionados now,” Jackson said. “Since they only sell small numbers, no studio wants to put extended features on them or to extend the cuts. We did hours and hours of behind-the-scenes material for The Lord of the Rings DVDs, and so many people have thanked me for doing them. People would watch that stuff over and over again because it inspired them to make films. That’s all gone now, and I think it’s a real shame.” Do you still get real books and DVDs?

my reaction to this every time is "so many people wanted this baby to live!" unironically a delight
when the European movie has seven production logos, each with its own elegant but playful jingle >>>

definitely healthy and normal to fixate on being called "kind of a dick" more than a decade ago. definitely *wise* to publicly draw attention to it long after everyone's forgotten!

Miles Teller stopped doing press profiles after Esquire magazine labeled him "kind of a dick." He now says: "It felt like such a violation..." “That was so mishandled. The reason why I have not done profiles is because I said, ‘Wow, if I’m not doing this interview on camera, this person can misquote things or put things out of order or say things that didn’t happen.’ It felt like such a violation of what actually transpired. I told my team, ‘Guys, I don’t think I’m doing this again, because I’m reading this and this doesn’t sound like me to me. This is not life, so why would I ever want to be a part of something where they can just put that in?' So it’s unfortunate that being a good person, that doesn’t sell. People want to click on the negativity. If you go to bed and put your head on your pillow and how you treat people truly, that’s what matters. That [2015] interview was like 12 years ago.” (via IndieWire) variety.com/2026/film/news/m…

Rex Reed could be everything people say and more—offensive, cutting, and very funny—usually in one sentence. He could also be sweet, when he wanted to be. I'm grateful to have known him. RIP.
