Remember: it's really easy for AI/ML to perpetuate bias in hiring (and all sorts of other things) simply by functioning as designed and training on biased data being produced by inherently flawed systems already in place. wired.com/story/ai-hiring-bi…

I did a thing! @AnnaOnTheWeb and I had a great convo about that inevitable c-suite question: What can we do with our data? Take a look! #womenindata #datascience #econladies #consulting
On this week's #DSSBreak @AnnaOnTheWeb sits down with @econamar, Managing Director, #DataScience at Econ One Research, where she creates #predictivemodels using client data to optimize business outcomes. Be sure to 'like' & subscribe to our channel! bit.ly/3LMZqBd

I often discuss the question of "we can, but should we?" in data science. This is a perfect example of no, we should not. wired.com/story/argentina-al…

After a ridiculously long hiatus from twitter, I tried to log on and...forgot my password. That, of course, made me wonder if I should just extend my hiatus :P

I've been honored to do work with Sixto and Think of Us, analyzing some of their data from foster youth and kinship caregivers on their needs and experiences. nytimes.com/2021/09/16/opini…

I needed this today! Maybe you do too. Thanks, @SchaferEcon!
Erykah Badu once said, "I'm an artist and I'm sensitive about my shit" which is something I very much was about when I first started out as a writer, but now, 10,000 years and as many cuts later, it's more like "You can't kill what's already dead inside."
I was quoted in an article for @lifewiretech about automation! #automation #ai lifewire.com/how-autonomous-…

I'm still giggling at this.
When a logistic regression causes your R session to freeze, it’s because it’s too logit to quit.

Agree.
Twitter doesn’t really need a “tech interviews are trash” post but I feel called to preach. Everything they test for can be learned on the job. Making up your own tests allows companies to hide their bias behind a method. It’s an ingroup cultural practice not an assessment.
All the fancy remote work tools and I still end up scribbling the math or the data map out on a piece of paper and holding it up to the screen roughly 95% of the time. #datascience #datamanagement #remotework #consulting

So much data. So little in usable condition...

Thinking today about hardware limitations and software inefficiency and how much time I spend solving those problems when my expertise is in econometric modeling. Wish they'd taught me any of this in grad school... #datascience #knowledgegaps

I got to watch my colleague @SchaferEcon testify in a case this week. It's so awesome to watch your colleagues shine on game day after watching them put in endless work to prepare for it -- she was amazing. #econladies #testifyingexpert
Did an audit on a filtering program recently. Good reminder that the model often goes wrong before it even exists because decisions were made about how to handle the data that have implications for modeling results... #datascience #datamodeling #womenindata

Trying to get my birth certificate out to an organization handling one of my dad's retirement accounts. They do not accept email. They want me to mail a copy that they will then scan and attach to my file. UGH.

You know when you do some quick and dirty code to get something done and then it becomes critical and you have to share it with other people and let them see all your ugly code habits? That's a special kind of discomfort. #DataScience #code
