"Work harder on yourself than you do on your job. If you work hard on your job, you can make a living. If you work hard on yourself, you can make a fortune." - Jim Rohn
βSuffering and pain are always mandatory for broad minds and deep hearts - truly great people, it seems to me, should feel great sadness on this earth.β β Fyodor Dostoevsky

"Mattering" is the belief that weβre significant to the world around us. When people feel they matter, they feel seen, important & needed through how others treat them. Scholars have deemed mattering to be a core instinct that drives all human behaviour. Thatβs why, when someone doesnβt believe they matter at work they:
- wonβt share their voice if they donβt believe their voice is significant
- wonβt use their strengths if they donβt believe they have strengths
- wonβt contribute if they donβt believe they have something to contribute
- wonβt care as much as if they feel cared for
Actions that leaders/ teams can take: see some excellent articles by @ZachMercurio - "How to Create Mattering at Work": zachmercurio.medium.com/how-β¦ and "The Cost of Not Mattering at Work": zachmercurio.medium.com/the-β¦.

"If you feel resistance before you begin, it's usually procrastination and you need to get started.
If you feel resistance after you begin, it's usually feedback and you need to make adjustments."

1st-grade teachers are just as important as college professors. While their responsibilities may differ in scope and complexity, their impact on students' development and learning is equally significant.
Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.
"If you want a simple formula for having a good day, then get a workout done and do your most important task before lunch. Knock out those two things by noon and you really feel like you're ahead of the day."

The great thing about having teachers with different talents, passions, and even personalities is that they all reach students that someone may not be able to reach. Celebrate the greatness every educator brings!
"One version of confidence is: I've got this figured out.
Another version is: I can figure this out.
The first is arrogant and close-minded. The second is humble and open-minded.
Be humble about what you know, but confident about what you can learn."

"One sign you havenβt done enough reading is if you find yourself agreeing with whatever book you read last. At first, itβs easy to be swayed by any reasonable argument. Once youβve read a lot, you can see that even the best arguments have limitations."

"Small things matter when they accumulate. This is one of the main lessons of my workβand one of the principles I try to follow in my life. The details, when finely polished and carefully combined, add up to something remarkable."
