In a @NatureCareers profile, @redlipblenny tells a tale of her 30-ft wave-riding journey across the Atlantic in a rowboat with 3 other female marine scientists. As told to @ljevanso Racing across the Atlantic: how we pulled together for ocean science nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

After 7 years I’ve finally published my masters thesis! We used observational data to help understand the suitability of Arctic habitat for sperm and northern bottlenose whales. Thanks to all who were involved esp my co-authors and funders. @jeffwhigdon @uwiceland
Little is known about the habitat of #SpermWhales and #NorthernBottlenoseWhales in the Canadian Arctic. In this new paper habitat suitability models were produced from opportunistic observations to better understand the ecology of these species bit.ly/meps_723_57

#Bycatch reduction strategy in #ArcticFisheries was assessed using electronic tags on Greenland halibut, Greenland sharks & Arctic skate. Species overlap in deep waters means fisheries should consider new bycatch reduction methods. #FeatureArticle bit.ly/meps_702_1

Each of these projects is different – because each one is being designed by communities, for communities – but the goals are the same: Protect our lands and waters, strengthen communities, and fight climate change. Learn more about these projects: pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releas…

1/5 We’re excited to share that @FishOceansCAN has announced the establishment of the Eastern Canyons Marine Refuge. This new fisheries closure offshore of NS, east of Sable Island Gully, will protect fragile deep-sea corals and associated ocean life from bottom fishing.

'Soft-release' refers to the practice of providing reintroduced animals with a predator-free acclimatization period before release. Check out how this affects movement behaviour of reintroduced salmon in our new paper in NAJFM! @ontariosalmon @NSERC_CRSNG doi.org/10.1002/nafm.10759
