This opens the door for us to build more accessibility color palettes (we now have six!) and tools in the future. We’ll continue working to iterate on dark mode, but as always, let us know what you think so far 👇! Android: lights out will be available soon. Stay tuned!

Automatic dark mode is a feature already available on Android which we’re now bringing to iOS. It’ll help adapt to the different environments you’re in throughout the day. Not only will it switch from am to pm, but it will adapt to your location/timezone.

#3: You want to access dark mode much faster. While it’s still available in settings, you can also swipe right and hold down the light bulb icon at the bottom to access dark mode, adjust your themes, and turn on/off automatic dark mode!

We also got a lot of insightful feedback from the Twitter community that we wanted to incorporate in this latest update: #1: Night mode wasn’t just being used at night, so we changed the name from night mode to dark mode and redesigned the icon from 🌙 to 💡.

Many moons ago in 2016, we introduced night mode (a theme we’ve now named “dim”) and since then, we’ve worked with external accessibility partners in addition to our design, research, and product teams to think of ways to make it even more accessible for a variety of needs.
