This is the most creative study! really neat work… but a little scary for the future west Antarctica and sea level rise.
New research published today in @ScienceMagazine has used 🐙octopus DNA🧬to discover that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet likely collapsed during the Last Interglacial period - when global temperatures were similar to today.

Dear @REI I am a climate scientist studying the melting of glaciers. We ordered 18 ice screws from you to use in our research. The 18 ice screws came in 18 separate boxes by nearly 18 different trucks. This makes me sad. #climateactionnow #glaciers #sustainability #reducewaste

It is with deep sorrow we report the death of Emeritus Fellow, Professor David Vaughan. He was suffering from cancer and passed away peacefully at home on Thursday 9 February 2023.

One of #TARSAN's aims was to download data from ocean instruments placed below #Thwaites ice shelf in 2019-20, accessible via a cable to the surface. We set up a LAN from the instrument site to our camp so Gabi could manage downloads from our cook tent - v. helpful during storms!

Our put-in team arrived on the ice shelf on Dec. 26 in the middle of a wind storm with blowing snow and gusts up to 35 kts - an exciting day to set up camp! It was stunning to see the damage across the grounding zone and magical to touch #Thwaites snow for the first time❄️
