Danish invention makes counterfeits impossible: 'It's a game changer'
With tiny grains of sand in unique patterns, everything from kiwi fruits and over-the-counter medicines to 24 carat gold jewellery can be protected from counterfeits.
Next year, your Christmas presents will have a little bit of particles on them. A random pattern of small, fine grains that reveal whether the product is real – or whether it’s a cheap and uncertain copy.
At least that's Thomas Just Sørensen's New Year's resolution.
He is behind a cutting-edge technology that can give everything from designer bags and toys to medicine and kiwifruits a unique stamp consisting of a random pattern of small particles.
“It is completely impossible to copy,” says Thomas Just Sørensen, professor of chemistry at the University of Copenhagen.
- It's a game changer. It's like biometrics and fingerprints, just for things.
