On 6th of July I wrote an email to the president of the @rcgp and asked for it to be disseminated to all trustees, council and board members. I also copied in @TheBMA The RCGP have not disseminated it to the above group, so I thought I would release it here: To the leadership of the RCGP, Trustees and Council Members I am writing to express my deep concern about the College’s inactions on the Physician Associate issue. As a background, I have been an AiT and I sat on the AiT committee for the RCGP on behalf of the Oxford Deanery back in 2013-15. I left clinical medicine in 2015/16 and am now writing to you as an informed member of the public and someone who is still working in the non clinical side of healthcare. 81% of your members have identified there to be a negative impact on patient safety with the use of PAs in primary care (Ref: Q38a of the survey report)

Not all “modernisation” has to come from workforce changes. Think infrastructure. HS2 was infrastructure but government mismanagement and inability to make decisions wasted billions didn’t it. That wasn’t the drivers’ fault was it.
Helpful to understand what rail modernisation you've achieved in return for this whopping 15% pay rise. If there are no real productivity improvements then this deal with your union paymasters will add to inflation, fail to modernise rail services & let down passengers

Awfully generous of the PAs to take over the day shifts so the Doctors can focus on the on-call rota Really, much appreciated #OneTeam

He took this point onboard. Ultimately, he wants to hear not from me, @UKGastroDr or any other Cons tweeters, but GI trainees - so, if you are a GI trainee & want to be heard, you MUST email president@bsg.org.uk, elected.council@bsg.org.uk & your regional BSG trainee rep NOW 7/x

So senior figures within the Royal College of Physicians presented a false picture of what its survey found. What a mess. One resignation so far...
Following the #RCPEGM on the role and regulation of physician associates (PAs), the RCP has now published the full data from its pre-EGM member survey. rcp.ac.uk/news/rcp-publishes…

Guys you realise you've set 50 hours of arbitrary CPD on the same scale as 2 years of 48 hours/week across 6 specialties right?

Wondering what those pesky registrars and house officers have been doing as clearly they weren't needed to keep the service running.

Thanks for the tag. Firstly, I think the quoted post is from the US (saw it doing the rounds from US radtwitter). H3nce the term midlevel that they don't really use here. Secondly, I'll address complication rates, but also why I think that means very little (cont)

💯No one gets left behind💯 🦀 Strength in Unity 🦀
Sorry! That’s not how a union works. We stay united & no one gets left behind. We are the 6th wealthiest nation in the world & have just given £20B of tax breaks to the private sector. Not paying doctors is a political choice - and we need to get over our Stockholm Syndrome.

Consequently Prof. Melville's assertion that genuine concerns aren't raised by the anonymous - is counter to existing NHS guidance and Sir Francis' report. The assertion that a formal internal process must be followed - is counter to existing guidance. His tweet can be ignored.

I would be concerned if I was calling another hospital for tertiary specialist advice and I get advice from someone who does not even hold a medical degree... If you can't man a tertiary service, don't have one.
Ok this has just become a potentially national scandal PAs should not be working at this level in paediatrics I'm lost for words... I feel sick

Attempting to discuss the concerns of many graduate doctors = stirring up trouble You've heard it - shut up and work your nights, weekends and Christmas shifts.
Who are these anonymous accounts who are supposedly UK doctors and seem to be here solely to stir up trouble? Are they even doctors? Really bizarre behaviour Certainly wouldn't wish to work with any of them
