Bahá’í Cyclist Babak Shadabi Appears in Court Despite Hip and Leg Fractures On 2 June 2026 Mr. Babak Shadabi, a Bahá’í resident of Karaj and a cyclist and peace ambassador, appeared in a court hearing despite suffering from serious injuries, including fractures to his hip and leg following a suspicious traffic incident. Mr. Shadabi’s hearing was held at Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Karaj, presided over by Judge Mostafa Narimani. Mr. Shadabi sustained the injuries in a traffic accident under unclear circumstances, and forensic medical documentation confirming his condition was submitted to the court. Despite his physical condition, he was required to attend the hearing in person, which was held on the second floor of the courthouse, making access particularly difficult for him. The hearing had originally been scheduled for 10 January 2026 but was postponed due to the unrest of 8–9 January. Subsequently, on 13 January 2026, a default judgment was issued against Mr. Shadabi in his absence, leading to his formal objection and the latest hearing. Since October 2025, Mr. Shadabi’s bank accounts and mobile phone lines had been blocked, without formal court procedures or a legal ruling, despite the presence of a registered guarantor. A travel ban was also imposed. Despite repeated follow-ups, none of these restrictions have been lifted. #Bahai #Iran #Arrests #CourtAppearances #BabakShadabi

Vafa Kashefi Remains Detained Without Charge 45 Days After Re-Arrest It was learned on 3 June 2026 that Mr. Vafa Kashefi, a 32-year-old Bahá’í resident of Mashhad, has remained in detention for 45 days without charge and is currently being held in the quarantine ward of Vakilabad Prison. Mr. Kashefi was among a number of Bahá’ís arrested at their homes in January 2026. He was released approximately one week later after posting bail of one billion tomans. After receiving a summons for questioning, he appeared before the Prosecutor’s Office in Mashhad on 21 April 2026. Upon his arrival, however, authorities arrested him and transferred him to prison. During subsequent proceedings, judicial authorities indicated that Mr. Kashefi could be released on bail if the amount was increased from one billion to ten billion tomans. Although his family secured the required bail, the prosecutor’s office has thus far refused to accept it, and he remains in custody. #Bahai #Iran #Arrests #Imprisonments #VafaKashefi

Sara Sepehri Remains Detained Without Charge as Health Concerns Intensify in Adelabad Prison It was learned on 4 June 2026 that Ms. Sara Sepehri, a Bahá’í resident of Shiraz, has remained in detention for 57 days without charge and continues to be held in Adelabad Prison amid growing concerns about her deteriorating health condition. Ms. Sepehri suffers from a serious eye condition that has reached a critical stage, placing her at risk of ocular hemorrhage. Although prison authorities recently arranged limited medical treatment after her condition worsened, the care provided has been insufficient, and she remains in need of specialized and ongoing medical attention. Prior to her arrest, Ms. Sepehri had a history of gastric bleeding and severe inflammatory eye disease. According to medical assessments, the stress and conditions of detention may further aggravate her health and could result in irreversible consequences. The source also stated that the interrogations conducted during her detention have been unrelated to the allegations raised against her and that her continued detention has persisted without any clear legal justification. Nearly two months after her arrest, authorities have yet to disclose the reasons for her detention or publicise any formal charges against her. Her continued imprisonment without clarification of her legal status has raised increasing concern among relatives and those following her case. #Bahai #Iran #Arrests #Imprisonments #SaraSepehri

Question for the 6% of Albertans who want us to become a US resource colony: why not just go there and make a refugee claim? You’ll be hosted in a lovely ICE detention facility while the Trump Administration determines whether you really are being oppressed in Canada by the “globalist deep state,” or whatever.

The @IrishTimes recently featured the case of Peyvand Naimi, a member of the Bahá'í faith detained without charge in January, through an interview with his relative, Sama Sabet, in which she described reports of torture and forced confessions during his detention. The article draws attention to the ongoing persecution faced by Bahá'ís in Iran, including arbitrary arrests, imprisonment, and severe mistreatment solely because of their religious beliefs. It also highlights growing international concern over the escalating repression targeting Bahá'ís and other vulnerable communities across the country. irishtimes.com/ireland/2026/… #BahaiRights #Iran #HumanRights

Thank you @EIPR for bringing attention to the systematic institutional discrimination and exclusion faced by Egyptian Baha'is, most recently compounded by a Court of Cassation ruling that overturned a prior judgment which had recognized the validity of a Baha'i couple's marriage, leaving Baha'i citizens with virtually no legal recourse to secure even their most fundamental rights. We echo the Initiative's statement: "The government’s failure to provide a legal solution to this ongoing crisis is merely one component of a broader exclusionary policy pursued by state executive agencies against Egyptian Baha’is, who are an integral part of Egyptian society." #EgyptianBahaiRights
🟠 The Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR) condemns the ongoing systematic discrimination against Baha’i citizens, which has been reinforced by a recent ruling from  the Court of Cassation. The court decision overturned a lower court ruling that had recognized the marital relationship between a Baha’i couple, following an appeal filed by the Ministers of Justice and Interior and the Civil Status Authority. 🟠 Failure to record the correct marital status in official identification documents creates daily hardships for Baha’is, including difficulties in obtaining pensions in cases of death, problems in inheritance distribution, and the inability to register as spouses in professional syndicates and health insurance systems. It further complicates dealing with schools where children are involved and with banks as couples. Additionally, it prevents non-Egyptian spouses of Egyptian Baha’i citizens from obtaining family residency permits in Egypt and, in some cases,  deprives Egyptian Baha’i mothers of their right to pass on their Egyptian nationality to their children when married to non-Egyptians—a right granted to all other Egyptian mothers. 🟠 EIPR holds the state’s executive bodies fully responsible for the daily suffering endured by Egyptian citizens across all aspects of their lives solely because of their religious affiliation, and reaffirms that Egyptian Baha’is are entitled to full citizenship rights. 🔗 Read the full statement: tinyurl.com/2awhkmy8

In an unexpected move, over 40 percent of Qatar’s Bahá’í population faces imminent expulsion from the country. The Bahá’í International Community is alarmed that the Qatari government is carrying out a deliberate campaign of religious erasure aimed at one of the religious communities that has been present in the region for over 100 years, and whose presence in Qatar—well before the establishment of the modern Qatari state—is documented as spanning many decades. Release her now.
Narges Mohammadi won the Nobel Peace Prize from inside an Iranian prison. For years, Iran has kept her chained to the cell floor of Iran’s notorious Evin Prison for telling the truth about the regime’s abuse of women and political opponents. Now her body is breaking down, and Tehran is blocking the urgent care she needs. Transfer her to her doctors. Release her now. share.google/yxO5Y3NJxksl5LZ…

I strongly condemn the arrest and detention, yet again, of Iranian human rights hero #NasrinSotoudeh whose case and cause I first took up as a member of Parliament in 2011 and have represented ever since; who was convicted in a sham trial in 2018 and sentenced to a total of 38 years in prison and 148 lashes, which I characterized then as a "virtual death sentence for a woman in her late 50s"; who, in ill health, was released on medical furlough before this recent arbitrary detention - while her husband Reza Khandan remains in prison - amidst a wave of massive repression in Iran, where it has been reported that over 30,000 were massacred in two days on January 8th and 9th, followed by an unending wave of mass arrests, torture in detention and extrajudicial executions, amidst the "fog of war" of Iranian missiles raining down on the Gulf State neighbours and Israel. @TheRWCHR and I, in joint partnership with @IJCollective, call for Nasrin Sotoudeh's immediate release and call on the Canadian Parliament, leaders of the G7 and the human rights community to join the call for her immediate release and for an end to the Iranian regime's massive domestic and transnational repression and assassination.
