Nate Horner. Matt Jones. Rebecca Schulz. These are not fringe figures in the UCP coalition. They represent the pragmatic, institutional, governing wing of conservatism in Alberta. And increasingly, they appear to be heading for the exits.
The UCP was built to unite conservatives after years of division. But more and more, it seems interested in governing for only one faction of the movement — and comfortable losing the rest.
And as an Albertan, I increasingly don’t see myself reflected in any of our politics anymore.
