Reflecting on Belfast, street politics, and the state of political nationalism in the North. What actually explains Sinn Féin's abandonment of nationalism for leftism? keithwoods.pub/p/belfast-str…

Grisly videos circulate online because people don’t trust the press to cover politically inconvenient crimes in a clear or frank manner. So people feel they need to see for themselves. The reaction of press, govt & activists to recent videos proves that instinct is correct btw

I often think of Hillary Clinton fainting and being thrown in the back of an SUV like a sack of potatoes, and how claims that had happened were a conspiracy theory until suddenly there was footage of it

The Fir-bolg point. He's saying we are all vikings, normans, scotch and Anglo. Even the Gaels came from elsewehere His reasoning actually makes limited sense. If he's English and drew this cartoon about Brighton- it would be unless you are cheddar man, we are all immigrants

Interesting and ominous that the rioters (masks notwithstanding) were so clearly youngfellas and this is a sea of grey and bald heads
Latest: Thousands of people are attending an anti-racism rally in Belfast following days of unrest. Read more: tinyurl.com/kh32wejv

I can’t figure out Turner thinks the Protestants of NI are an immigrant community in the modern, scared sense, or that 21st C immigration constitutes a plantation, as of old? Because it’s one or the other. Either way, surprising opinions for an Irish Times cartoonist to hold

Annoying that fashion in most Irish shops follows the seasonal changes in much hotter places. I need clothes that can handle driving wind and horizontal drizzle, I don’t care if the calendar says June

I’m going to start unfollowing people who keep tweeting anti-Irish stuff into my feed and blocking the accounts tweeting it. I don’t really want to do that but it’s about 50% of the content I see on my tl of a given day even though I don’t click on it, it’s so stupid

Actually prefer the Twitter summary here as it implies police are canvassing the (tight-lipped, one imagines) Seagull community in the hopes of cracking the case

These posts are performative and tiresome. Plenty of ex IRA men for years have told the story of how and why this happened. Theres interviews, theres books, theyre not hard to find, if you were actually curious youd have looked it up. Instead you post this for engagement
And another thing I don’t understand: Gerry Adams led the IRA for decades to get the British out of Ireland. There was a peace agreement, the British Army withdrew from Ireland and then he sat down and thought, ‘right, I think we should flood Ireland with the whole of the third world and their rights should be above the rights of any Irishman’. I don’t get it. I really don’t.

The initial takes were bad but each new tweet from an international commentator explaining what’s *really* happening in Belfast is catastrophically worse and more wrong than the last, and is genuinely making me question what I’m doing here

As a blanket statement “the problems in Belfast are caused by foreign actors” really has something for everyone

I don’t think it’s safe for so many Ukrainians to be in the sinister Russian colony of Ireland. How quickly can they go
