At State House today, I witnessed the presentation to President @WilliamsRuto the @HakiKNCHR framework for compensation and reparations for victims of Human Rights Violations Including Demonstrations and Public Protests. This marks an important step towards restorative justice, national healing, and reconciliation. As a nation, we honour the victims, uphold accountability, and commit ourselves to one enduring promise: Never Again.
Thanks Mr President @WilliamsRuto for leading from the front in this historic, bold, and unprecedented initiative to confront and change Kenya’s culture on public protests and the exercise of the predicates of Art. 37 of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution. Our future is bright🙏🏽

The Reparations Framework presented today proposes a range of measures to ensure justice, including compensation, rehabilitation, restitution, satisfaction and guarantees of non-repetition.
These are standard reparative justice measures used in transitional justice and human rights contexts to address harm suffered by victims of violations. The Framework seeks to establish a victim-centered, transparent and accountable system capable of delivering accessible and effective remedies in accordance with the Constitution and international human rights standards.

President Ruto says Kenya is making real progress on historical injustices, but cautions that protests often turn violent and admits excessive force has sometimes been used.
President Ruto: This marks the end of a painful chapter in our national life. There have been instances where the response to public demonstrations has resulted in excessive use of force, violation of rights and loss of life
President Ruto: We have allocated Ksh. 2 billion towards compensation and reparation for those who have suffered verified harm arising from protests, injured citizens, affected families, businesses lost and law enforcement officers injured in the course of their duties
President Ruto: Our commitment is not in words alone but also in deeds. We have buried our heads in the sand for far too long. It is time for us as a nation and for me as the leader to stand up, own up and do something
So they have finally been told to report to Wamunyoro. We knew this was the destination from the very beginning. Imagine that, Wamunyoro is now effectively their leader. @Honcalebamisi called it correctly.
This afternoon, I had the opportunity to visit Hon. George Aladwa @h_aladwa , I was happy to find him in good spirits and doing well. Wishing him continued strength, a smooth recovery, and God's blessings in the days ahead.
