Today Skillnet Ireland and @MariaWalshEU held an event in the European Parliament discussing the European Year of Skills and 'What comes Next' for Ireland.
It was discussed how Skillnet Ireland is working with Irish industry to address the skills challenges of the dual digital and green transitions. Additionally, supports for specific sectors of the Irish Economy including construction, agriculture and the needs of SMEs were also discussed.
Irish MEPs heard from Skillnet Business Networks, @ItagSkillnet, @MacraSkillnet, @NatOrgSkill and @TechiaSkillnet about the best practices in upskilling and workforce development programmes Skillnet Ireland has available.

Announcing the launch of Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy, Minister @podonovan, said: “It is a key priority for my Department to ensure that we have a talent pool ready and able to meet the requirements of developing our offshore wind resources. The importance of renewable energy for Ireland cannot be understated, as well as contributing to our energy security and lower carbon emissions, it will also create new jobs and produce cost savings for consumers. Skillnet Offshore Wind Academy will play a crucial role in ensuring the sector has the skills and expertise necessary to meet its climate action goals and in helping to make Ireland a world-leader in offshore energy.”
Skillnet Ireland, the national talent development agency for businesses, in partnership with @WindEnergyIRL have launched a new national initiative, @SkillnetOWA. This Initiative aims to rapidly create a pipeline of skilled workers for businesses operating in offshore wind services.

Skillnet Innovation Exchange has announced an expansion into the northwest region through its west regional partner, Platform94, as part of its continuing nationwide expansion. The partnership offers ambitious and innovative SMEs the opportunity to connect with large businesses looking to access digital transformation solutions.

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science @podonovan TD launched the Irish Medtech Skillnet’s Future Skills report for the Medtech sector at Thomond Park. He said, "Having the right skills is crucial and this report underscores that the most pressing skills required by the sector are influenced by significant economic trends".
Speaking at the launch, @pjthealy, Chief Executive, Skillnet Ireland said, "The report paints a comprehensive picture of the current and future talent profile of the Irish medtech sector and is based on a deep industry analysis that encompasses digitalisation, data analytics, and automation as well as skills for sustainability and climate action. We see demand for these skill types increasing in medtech and across other industry sectors too. Through our 70 Skillnet Ireland Business Networks and National Initiatives, Skillnet Ireland is dedicated to bringing leading-edge and innovative upskilling programmes to advance talent in these critical areas”.
Irish Medtech Skillnet's mission is to further Ireland’s position as an emerging global medical technology hub by enhancing the specialised knowledge and skills of the talent base.

Last week, @podonovan, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, attended the graduation ceremony of 80 graduates from the @CReadyAcademy at the 2024 Sustainability Practitioners Conference. The event was held at the Kemmy Business School, @UL. Key discussions at the conference focused on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements, the skills and leadership needed for sustainability initiatives, and the strategic planning essential for business transformation.
@pjthealy, Chief Executive, Skillnet Ireland, said: "A recent report from Skillnet Climate Ready Academy demonstrated that while Irish business leaders are placing more focus on becoming sustainable, they need clarity on the skills and type of leadership required to execute a sustainability strategy.
