Steadily removing all writing assignments from my courses to avoid confronting AI-generated horseshit. This is the inevitable result of the embrace of AI by higher education. We will produce a generation of students that can't write or think for themselves.

All the talking heads saying the SEC championship game didn’t matter once the CFP rankings came out obviously don’t understand @KirbySmartUGA and the @GeorgiaFootball culture. They play to win the moments and for the love of the game. It is disrespectful to say it doesn’t matter.

How Accurate a Wingshooter are you, really? This week's episode of On the Wing Podcast features University of Georgia’s Dr. James Martin and Tall Timbers biologists Amanda Cramer and Justin Rectenwald for a conversation recapping the group’s three-year study focused on assessing crippling loss from bobwhite quail hunters. Everyone complaining about the quality of football games yesterday is just flapping lips. They watched the games and will do it next year too. All the networks laugh all the way to the bank.

I seem to recall several tweets yesterday about ACC and SEC. @CyrusBaird you recall any of that?

Many ecologists are excited about new tech - eg AI, ecoacoustics, automated monitoring... And some imply that this tech will help reverse biodiversity loss Without decisive socio-political action on the nature emergency, all this tech will do is document further loss & collapse

On The Wing Podcast Ep. 270: Use the Bobscapes App to Record Bobwhite Quail Encounters and Help Biologists, is live. Listen now at the link below, or wherever you get you podcasts. quailforever.org/BlogLanding… Host Bob St.Pierre is joined by Quail Forever’s Dr. Jessica McGuire, University of Georgia’s Dr. James Martin, and Quail Forever Journal Editor Ryan Sparks for a conversation about the new “Bobscapes” mobile app. The group chats about citizen science, artificial intelligence, and using Bobscapes data to better understand bobwhite quail populations. Episode Highlights: • Dr. Martin discusses the evolution of citizen science in wildlife research and also theorizes ways artificial intelligence may be used to help biologists in the future. • Jokingly referred to as a Bobscapes app “super user,” Sparks explains how easy the app is to use and how he enjoys putting it to work on his family’s Nebraska farm. • Learn more about Bobscapes and download the free app at Bobscapes.org. This episode of On the Wing podcast was made possible by a grant from the #Farming4Habitat campaign. Learn how private landowners are investing in the conservation of America’s fish and wildlife resources by visiting Farming4Habitat.org.

If you are out in the field this summer and hear or see any bobwhite quail, be sure to break out your Bobscapes App, report it, and take part in some crucial citizen science! Link below to get the app. The Bobscapes mobile app is user-friendly and confidential – map coordinates for coveys, broods, or quail calls are only shared with a select group of biologists for consideration of future habitat work. bobscapes.org//

I am unnerved by the state of the workforce in the wildlife conservation profession. We are doing something wrong.

Agree so much with this! ChatGPT is also a TERRIBLE writer - boring, wordy, and cliché. I have way too many opinions about my personal writing style to ever want to outsource that to a chatbot. Writing (and thinking thru writing) will always be hard, but rewarding.
