@infoecho @domenjemec reviewed Conway's Law and the history of genome assemblers to see how including agents in academic labs will shape the research software ship. PIs will bifurcate further: either they'll ship more or end up even more removed. gptomics.com/blog/conway_lawโ€ฆ

As academic audit culture grows (now pre-approvals for conferences, foreign collabs, etc), I hope students will remember there's another way: academia built on mutual trust/obligation through collective effort My take on the neoliberal academic ecosystem: youtu.be/PGO4qgfm7DU

Congrats Ada Lau (one of our ODYSSEY trainees) getting her research highlighted at the #MoffittScientificSymposium @MoffittNews
At #MoffittScientificSymposium, Ada Lau shares research investigating immunosuppressive features of the multiple myeloma tumor microenvironment following CAR-T therapy. Findings revealed CD8 immune responses between complete response and progressive disease samples, highlighting interferon pathway activation in responders and TNF-alpha signaling in progressive disease.

AI can accelerate discovery through algorithmic optimization, but translating those discoveries into impact remains a human endeavor.

When polishing scientific figures for publication, I try to limit fonts font sizes to reduce visual noise. But doing this by hand is tedious. So I vibe coded a web app to standardize text in SVGs: jef.works/SVG-Text-Standardiโ€ฆ Try it out! Spot the differences. Hope it's helpful

#ScienceSaturday โ“ How can we turn T-cells into cancer-fighting โ€œsoldiersโ€ without changing their DNA? โžก๏ธ A new study in Nature Biotechnologyย introduces an all-RNA platform that can turn T-cell genes on or offย using epigenetic CRISPR tools called CRISPRoffย and CRISPRon. Instead of cutting or rewriting DNA, this method โ€œreprogramsโ€ genes by adding or removing chemical marks โ€” allowing researchers to boost or silence key immune functions safely. โžก๏ธ The team showed this can enhance CAR T-cell therapies, helping immune cells better recognize and attack tumors while reducing potential side effects linked to traditional gene editing. ๐ŸŒŸ Congratulations to senior authors Alex Marson, Luke Gilbert, Brian Shy, and Justin Eyquemย of UCSF, Arc Institute, and Gladstone Institutes for this exciting advance โ€” a big step toward the next generation of precise, safer immunotherapies. ๐Ÿ”— Read more in Nature Biotechnology: doi.org/10.1038/s41587-025-0โ€ฆ @LukeGilbertSF @UCSF @UCSFCancer @UCSFMedicine @arcinstitute @GladstoneInst @j_eyquem

In a medical milestone, a customized base editor was developed, characterized in human and mouse cells, tested in mice, studied for safety in non-human primates, cleared by @US_FDA for clinical trial use, manufactured as a complex with an LNP, and dosed into a baby with a severe, rapidly progressing genetic disease... all in an astounding 7 months. Best of all, the infant patient shows apparent benefit. Congratulations to @kiranmusunuru, Rebecca Ahrens-Nicklas, and other team members for this heroic and inspiring effort, which has implications for the hundreds of millions of patients that suffer from thousands of genetic diseases. drive.google.com/file/d/1Jfkโ€ฆ

Thanks to the @KayYowFund we will be able to begin some exciting research challenging current treatment paradigms in ovarian cancer that will hopefully improve outcomes. Thank you so much for your generous support!
๐Ÿ€ Big assist from the @KayYowFund! Moffitt has received a $250K grant to expand cancer research, prevention & outreachโ€”breaking down barriers to care in underserved communities. This generous gift will bring life-saving screenings and services directly to those who need them most. Thank you, Kay Yow Cancer Fund, for standing with us in the fight against cancer. #WFinalFour
