شاركتُ موخراً كعضو في الاجتماع السنوي للجنة العالمية لسياسة المخدرات (GDDP) @globalcdp ( وهي لجنة مكونة من كبار الساسة والخبراء ) لا يزال التحدي المتمثل في تحويل المنظومة العالمية الحالية لمكافحة المخدرات إلى منظومة قائمة على الأدلة العلمية وترتكز على حماية الصحة وحقوق الإنسان، وتدفع بعجلة التنمية، أمراً يتطلب تغييرًا جذريًا في طريقة التفكير… ان المنظومة الحالية التى تؤدي إلى حرمان اكثر من ٨٠٪ من سكان العالم ( معظمهم من العالم الثالث) من مسكنات الألام المبرحة هى منظومة تحتاج يقينا الى اعادة النظر وبسرعة… لقد ثبت بالأدلة القاطعة أن تجريم جميع حالات حيازة المخدرات وتعاطيها وسجن مرتكبيها يأتي بنتائج عكسية. ما يحتاجه العالم هو توفير العلاج والأدوية لإنقاذ الأرواح وإعادة تأهيل مدمني المخدرات ليصبحوا أعضاء عاملين في المجتمع… ولعل لجنة الخبراء المشكلة حديثًا، والتي ستدرس فعالية المنظومة الحالية، قد توصى بتدابير تجعلها أكثر كفاءة وإنسانية؛ منظومة تحمى المجتمع وتتعامل مع متعاطين المخدرات كمرضى لا كمجرمين…
