Grateful to have had the chance to present part of my work @ESIDsociety, with over 2,400 attendees! It was an amazing experience connecting with scientists from around the world and having insightful discussions. Can’t wait for the next edition!
The Phenocopies of IEI session at #ESID2024 features experts Steve Holland, @anne_puel, @BenHalePhD, Aude Magerus, Sophie Hambleton, and @grvsadrian exploring how similar phenotypes emerge from different genetic causes. #IEI#ESID
Just published in @NatureComms!
We show that Usutu virus is the only mosquito-borne flavivirus to resist ISG20-mediated inhibition, thanks to a unique domain in its 3'UTR that protects its genome from degradation.

1/ Excited to report in @JExpMed more about the causes and consequences of human autoantibodies neutralizing type I IFNs through the study of a rare disease: shorturl.at/cWcCa
About 10% of people who develop severe Covid have autoantibodies to Type 1 interferon, which doesn't get diagnosed. Now there's a simple assay.
It's also relevant for other life-threatening viral illnesses, and these Abs exist in ~100 million people worldwide.

We report here in @PNASNews a simple assay to detect human type I interferon (IFN-I) deficiency. This test could revolutionize the diagnosis and management of patients with autoantibodies against IFN-I and inborn errors of immunity (IEI) affecting the IFN-I pathway!
Thrilled to share my second first-author paper out in @JExpMed. We show that about 10% of severe tick-borne encephalitis cases are due to auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs. Thanks to all our wonderful collaborators!
1/ We are excited to share our report in #JEM that about 10% of severe tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) cases, triggered by the TBE virus (TBEV), are due to pre-existing auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs (doi.org/10.1084/jem.20240637).
West Nile virus season in full swing in Europe
Austria reports 7 West Nile virus infections after mosquito bites (Lower Austria, Burgenland), including 3 hospitalized with neurological symptoms. One imported from Hungary
Several others under investigation ecdc.europa.eu/en/news-event…

#Encephalitis2023 is now underway. @encephalitisava & Dr Nick Davies are leading the first session.
Speakers include Dr Tarun Dua @WHO , Dr Sophia Michael, Dr Christine Strippel, @grvsadrian & Dr Tina Damodar.
Excited to hear what they have to say about #encephalitis research.
1/ We are excited to report in @Nature the discovery that human inborn errors of the alternative NF-ÎşB pathway-dependent immunity underlie the development of auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs (rdcu.be/dqBBU).
#WestNile virus #encephalitis will be the topic when @grvsadrian joins our panel of speakers at Encephalitis 2023.
Our annual conference, aimed at medical professionals of all levels, can be attended @RCPVenue#London or online in December.

1/ We are excited to share our report in @JExpMed showing that about 40% of cases of #WestNilevirus (#WNV) encephalitis are due to pre-existing auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs, making WNV encephalitis the best understood human infectious disease (rupress.org/jem/article/220/…).
