The Austin NewsGuild won a ULP against Gannett when they tried to take away the match shortly after unionizing. I stand with the guild in their effort to retain the 2.5% match!

Guild members at the Austin American-Statesman have 2.5% 401(k) match from Gannett, which is 2.5% more than non-unionized papers currently get.
@Gannett expects a ‘thank you’ for providing a 1% match for its employees in July, & it wants Statesman employees to accept the same — even though it’s 60% less than our current benefit.

Today, I sent a letter to the Journal News and parent company Gannett urging them to bargain in good faith and respect their workers. Workers' rights are protected by the National Labor Relations Act, and employers must fulfill their duty to bargain in accordance with the law.

January 2020: Existing 5% match (it used to be 6%, pre-Gatehouse merger)
July 2020: paused
May 2021: 2.5%
October 2022: paused
July 2024: 1%.
