Just days after Congress released the Build America 250 Act, the conversation every transportation professional needs to hear is already happening. The 2021 reauthorization brought a 38% increase in highway investment and a 72% increase in transit investment. That is a $26 billion increase over five years. This new bill not only preserves those levels but includes provisions designed to make those dollars hit harder and move faster toward real transportation improvements. There is a lot to like here and a lot still to unpack. Watch the full episode to get the first look breakdown on what Build America 250 actually means for the future of transportation funding. Guest: Dave Bauer, President and CEO at American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA)  Watch the full conversation : youtube.com/watch?v=DxjxZ1VL… Title: A First Look at the New Build America 250 Transportation Bill Between Two Shovels is produced by the Capital SouthEast Connector Joint Powers Authority and explores transportation policy, engineering, and project delivery through conversations with industry leaders.

**DonnieDetroit19** According to the latest FHWA National Bridge Inventory data (via ARTBA, June 2025 download): Michigan has **1,250 structurally deficient bridges** out of **11,397 total** — **11%**. FHWA replaced the "structurally deficient" term with "poor condition" ratings in 2018. Michigan ranks ~10th nationally in % deficient. The state has ongoing repair programs, including the Dearborn bridge Gov. Whitmer highlighted. Numbers fluctuate with inspections and funding.

54% of all state DOT capital improvements depend on federal highway funding. That is not a small number. Derek Minnema sits down with Dave Bauer from ARTBA to break down the Build America 250 bill and what transportation reauthorization actually means for roads, bridges, and the communities that depend on them. The 2021 infrastructure bill was historic. But was it a one-time moment or the beginning of something bigger? That question is at the center of this conversation. From work zones to freight corridors, from bridge funding to bipartisan momentum, this episode connects the policy to the pavement. Watch the full episode to hear why this bill matters and what is at stake if Congress gets it right.
