Learn AWS Fundamentals - Day 4 Understanding the AWS Shared Responsibility Model This model talks about the responsibilities owned by AWS and the Customers. What AWS Owns? AWS being a cloud provider offers various services like Compute, Storage and Networking. It owns, manages and operates all the infrastructure on which these services operates. It's responsible for Security of the Cloud. This infrastructure is composed of the hardware, software, networking, and facilities that run AWS Cloud services. What do Customers Own ? It's decided based on the selected services. Say you need EC2 then you will have to perform the necessary security configuration and management tasks. Since EC2 is an IaaS you will need to manage the OS, any installed software and AWS firewall also. For certain abstracted services AWS will do this for you. Learn AWS Fundamentals - Day 3 🚀 High level view of the AWS Global Infrastructure AWS Regions When you create an AWS account you can select any of the regions. Regions are available across the globe. Like US, Australia, Asia etc. These are cluster of data centers. Example - us-east-1, us-east-2 How to select a Region ? Based on factors like - 1. Compliance - like some Countries require you to keep data in a Region. 2. Latency - a region closer to your user base can reduce latency. 3. Availability of Resources. AWS services can have region wise scope or global scope. Like IAM service has a Global scope. Provides the building blocks for IT. 2. Includes Compute, Storage, Network and other services. Platform as a Service (PaaS) 1. Here the Cloud provider, like AWS, gives you the Platform and you just need to deploy your application. 2. Less flexible than IaaS. 3. You simply need to maintain the application. Software as a Service You get the software to use. You don't need to manage application or the infra.
