The IEEE Student Branch at CMU-Africa recently hosted a delegation from the  IEEE Microwave Theory & Technology Society (MTT-S). The delegation included Dr. Goutam Chattopadhyay the 2025 President of MTT-S and a senior scientist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory; Prof. Maurizio Bozzi, University of Pavia; Prof. Nuno Borges Carvalho, University of Aveiro; and Prof. Samir El-Ghazaly, University of Arkansas. The meeting explored future research and development opportunities, including the potential to establish an MTT-S sub-section at CMU-Africa and in the East African region. CMU-Africa hosted a delegation of Ethiopian government officials, led by Shimelis Abdisa, the President of the Oromia Region. During their visit, they had the opportunity to meet with students and alumni with research projects within the robotics lab where they learned more about the cutting-edge solutions being developed. The @CMUAfricaWiT in partnership with the @GdgKigali recently hosted the annual DevFest Kigali event, a platform for exploring cutting-edge technologies, with a special focus on Google technologies. Themed Responsible AI, this year’s event attracted over 270 attendees, including students from the Rwanda Coding Academy, Maranyundo Girls School, and the University of Rwanda. Through engaging lightning talks, breakout sessions, and a panel discussion, attendees gained insights from 26 expert speakers, including Google Developer Experts, founders, CTOs, and country directors. Topics ranged from artificial intelligence to Flutter, Android, and other emerging technologies.
