For months now, people have spread misinformation about my name even though they clearly have no idea what they are talking about. I have seen a select number of individuals say that me and a few other artists are botting / paying to be on botted playlists on spotify. I would like to start off by saying I have never, not even once, paid for any sort of promotion, or botted playlisting. I find it very ridiculous that i am going to have to educate some people on how spotify-made features work and also find it very upsetting that I have found myself not wanting to increase in monthly in fear of being called a 'botter', when I should in fact be celebrating such great success at just 17.
Spotify has a feature called discovery mode . This increases the number of algorithmic placements that a song will get, the better a song performs in terms of completion rate, saves, playlist adds, the more spotify will push the song. This is why artists such as Lex Amarni, Puresnow, 2muchmotion frequently come up after artists such as feng or fakemink in the algorithmic autoplay. I have attached a breakdown of my spotify stats from the last 28 days (screenshot 2) and i have also attached my discovery mode stats from february (before fake id was in discovery mode), march (when fake id was added to discovery mode) and May (the most recent discovery mode cycle), and as you can see a large proportion of my monthly listeners 511k come from this spotify-made feature alone. So it is really unfair when all I have done is make music, and market it.
As you can see from the screenshots, Fake ID, in it's first month had a 5% intent rate (% of cold listeners who saved/added the song to playlists/interacted with my page in any way after hearing the song), hence it was pushed further and further over time.
People may say then, why do artists that have a signifcantly larger following than me not have as many monthly listeners as me? There are 2 explanations for this, a lot of artists who are bigger in the underground make really good music but not music that appeals to the larger wider world which is why they do not perform as well in discovery mode contexts (I am one of the very few that have blown up this way). Second explanation is that they simply do not use discovery mode as it takes a 30% cut of streaming royalties or they do not need the algorthmic push. Discovery mode also only works with certain distributors. This can be one reason some artists see their monthly listeners decrease after signing to a label, depending on how their releases are distributed.
I would like to add that monthly listeners is not a calculation on how big an artist is, but rather it is the number of people an artist is reaching. Someone being a monthly listener of mine, does not mean someone is a fan of mine. It simply means they have heard at least one of my songs, at least one time, in the previous 28 days.
My top 5 cities on spotify are:
London, GB
16,411 listeners
Sydney, AU
10,234 listeners
Warsaw, PL
9,986 listeners
Melbourne, AU
9,067 listeners
Los Angeles, US
8,722 listeners
Please do not fall for the propaganda spread by media, they tried to push this agenda, to make other artists who they favoured over us look better, but at the end of the day, good music will always prevail. ❤️
