Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, Chief Evangelist & Strategic Fellow – Auto, ICEA, was part of the high-impact panel discussion on Indigenisation of Electric Vehicles, while the conclave was anchored by a powerful keynote address from Dr. Hanif Qureshi, IPS, Additional Secretary (Auto), Ministry Of Heavy Industries, together outlining a clear roadmap for India’s electric mobility future.
Mr. Srivastava brought a sharp industry lens to the panel discussion, emphasising that EVs are no longer mechanical products rather they are a convergence of electronics, power electronics, batteries, advanced chemistry, software, AI, IoT, and information technology. Drawing from three decades in the automotive sector, he highlighted that customer trust, peace of mind, right pricing, and timely delivery are critical to mass EV adoption.
A key concern he raised was India’s dependence on imported technologies and IPR-heavy components, which adds hidden costs and strategic risk. Indigenous innovation, driven by strong academia–industry collaboration, is vital to reduce royalties, strengthen technology sovereignty, and build long-term competitiveness. He also pointed out that the real EV opportunity already exists, with India selling 3.5 lakh passenger vehicles every month, the challenge is converting this volume through innovation-led cost reduction and supportive policy frameworks.
Throughout these discussions, ICEA’s commitment to building a globally competitive EV ecosystem in India stood clearly articulated, from driving indigenisation in electronics and auto technologies, to enabling industry–academia collaboration, and shaping policy frameworks that help India build deep capabilities, scale fast, and lead globally.
