The only utility of an odds ratio or RR in observational studies is to update your 🧠 to have higher or lower suspicion for associated findings. Daily cannabis use raises my suspicion for MDD. Are illness scripts just expected frequencies in a nutshell? #BayesianBrain #DxEx

🤯 Metacognition & The Recursion Trap Excessive self-reference ("overthinking") in our nonlinear cognitive systems can deform initial information. We can model this using Kullback-Leibler (KL) Divergence, which measures the distance between probability distributions. When recursive metacognition overshoots, the resulting belief (P-final) drifts away from the original belief (P-initial). This causes the KL-divergence between P-final and P-initial to increase. KL-divergence acts as a brake: When the information gain from self-reference is negligible (KL approaches zero), the optimal system stops, preventing this deformation. #BayesianBrain #Metacognition #KLDivergence #CognitiveScience

New Research Topic! How does the brain predict the future? Join us in exploring one of neuroscience’s most compelling frameworks, predictive processing, through the lens of computational modeling. This Research Topic aims to advance our understanding of how the brain anticipates sensory input, minimizes prediction errors, and supports adaptive behavior. We’re seeking contributions that develop, test, and compare computational models, from Bayesian inference to deep learning, and link them to neural, behavioral, or clinical data. Whether you're working at the intersection of neuroscience, cognitive science, or AI, this is your chance to shape the future of brain modeling. Post-COVID breathlessness isn’t about broken lungs It’s about broken coherence Breathing patterns and physiology are intact But the system that interprets and regulates them has lost synchrony The organism no longer aligns sensory input, prior experience, and energetic feedback into a coherent state This isn’t a measurement error It’s a collapse of the resonance field that binds body, brain, and awareness into a self-sensing whole In HFRT terms: The system still receives signals But it can no longer resonate with them Symptom perception becomes decoupled from bodily reality That’s why patients feel like they’re suffocating, even when their breathing is fine #LongCovid #HFRT #BayesianBrain #Interoception

😂 you making me laugh! Perception results from guesses on the likely causes of input (rather than veridical registering of incoming info), much like hypothesis testing. As it turns out this renders more efficiency to 🧠s #predictiveprocessing #bayesianbrain

Packing my suitcase for Glasgow... having 28 degrees in Vienna and 15 in Glasgow. My brain knows it's gonna be cold and that I am a freezy person but I really have to make a very conscious effort. I guess my prior is too strong? Is this evidence for the #bayesianbrain? #ohbm2022

I honestly can't remember if I am unironically a Bayesian or not.
