SHOTS FIRED: PARK INCIDENT INVOLVING PETROL BOMB SUSPECT Met Firearms Officers were involved in a high-risk incident yesterday after a known violent offender was pursued by police and ultimately neutralised in a public park. The incident began when the subject, flagged for prior violent assaults against officers, was approached near Westminster. Officers had previously engaged the suspect using vocal de-escalation and tactical containment methods. These efforts failed. The suspect became increasingly aggressive and entered a vehicle, leading to a pursuit across central London. After abandoning the vehicle next to a public park, the suspect threw a lit Molotov cocktail, igniting a tree and grass area metres from officers and nearby civilians. Given the known history, active threat, and immediate risk to life, officers were authorised to use Level 5 force. Shots were fired. The subject was neutralised. Fire services contained the blaze, and no civilians were injured.
