At the Sustainable Building and Construction Summit in Lausanne, Switzerland, I had the pleasure of delivering a presentation on Energy Efficiency in Buildings in Somalia.
I highlighted the critical nexus between energy and the building sector, emphasizing the need to improve construction practices to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability. The presentation underscored the importance of aligning energy and building policies to create a coherent framework that supports low-carbon development.
Strengthening energy-efficient building practices presents a major opportunity to boost sustainable energy use and support long-term economic and environmental resilience in Somalia. @UNEP#SBCS2026#Sustainablebuilding#buildForClimate
Did you know that elevator components can also be reused and repurposed? Here’s a wonderful example from our Senior Test Specialist Petteri Dammert. He repurposed a control panel lifting lug from a KONE MiniSpace™ DX elevator to create a sturdy entrance for a coal tit’s house, preventing squirrels from entering, and thus ensuring safety for its little ones! 🐦🪺💙
While the recent report by @UNEP tells us emissions from the building and construction sector have stopped rising for the first time since 2020, we still have work to do. We’re constantly on the lookout for new innovations towards circular ways of building. Did you hear about our historic dismantling and replacement process at Opéra National de Lyon where elevators were disassembled, with 100 components identified for potential reuse? “The buildings where we work, shop and live account for 1/3 of global emissions and global waste. The good news is that government actions are working. But we must do more and do it faster.”
