Rhode Island Healthcare Crisis: Unacceptable Failures
@ButlerHospital,
@HasbroChildrens,
@RIHospital, and Governor
@GovDanMcKee — you need to be held accountable now.
Butler Hospital
Your staff have been on strike since May 15, fighting for fair wages, safer conditions, and basic dignity. Yet you continue to hire replacement workers — even permanent ones. You've reportedly spent over $3 million staffing at premium rates instead of addressing the core issues. Your decision to permanently replace striking workers is not only ruthless, it’s potentially illegal under labor law. Meanwhile, staff assaults have surged 40% — 236 reports in 2024 alone.
Rhode Island Hospital & Hasbro Children’s
Nurses at both institutions just voted to authorize a strike. They’re exhausted from being undervalued, underpaid, and pushed beyond limits. The contract proposals on the table, backed by Brown University and hospital leadership, clearly miss the mark. This is not sustainable.
Governor McKee
As Rhode Island’s top elected official, it’s your responsibility to protect essential workers and ensure our hospitals are safe, stable, and properly resourced. Yet we’ve seen no real action — no public leadership, no intervention in negotiations, and no effort to address the structural issues at play. Silence is not leadership.
Rhode Islanders deserve better:
Fair wages that meet the standard of need — $23–26/hour minimum
Safe work environments where staff aren’t being assaulted or forced to sleep in their cars
Real negotiations that respect workers — not threats, delays, or walk-backs
To everyone reading this: share it. Tag your legislators. Demand action. Because if we don’t stand with the people who care for us, who will?
@RISenate @RIHouseofReps You are all equally responsible!
