During a meeting with Laura Nyirinkindi, CDWD women highlighted these challenges and the importance of including their voices in global conversations.
Through GFOD, many women have gained skills and entered advocacy and policy roles.
At #HRC61, we called on the Human Rights Council to address the international invisibility of Communities Discriminated on Work and Descent (#CDWD), recognized under #ICERD yet still overlooked.

Dr. Aita Bishowkarma from GCAP’s Social Justice Task Force (Asia Dalit Rights Forum) and Equity Society Nepal highlighted how Dalit and CDWD (Communities Discriminated on Work and Descent) communities continue to face systemic barriers to land ownership, access to water resources and social protection. These exclusions deepen poverty, reinforce caste-based discrimination and deny communities their basic rights and dignity.

We’re heading to Geneva to make sure the voices of Communities Discriminated on Work and Descent are heard loud and clear!
Over the coming days, we’ll be joining key global spaces — the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights, the Universal Periodic Review, and the Forum on Minority Issues.
Together with partners and CDWD activists, we’ll spotlight the realities communities face when defending their rights, accessing justice, and challenging discrimination embedded in business practices.
We’ll also contribute to the human rights reviews of Mauritania, Nepal, and Australia, bringing forward lived experiences that too often go ignored. #CDWD#HumanRights#Geneva#UPR#MinorityIssues#BusinessAndHumanRights#EndDiscrimination@TOROTCOISIMONA@UNGeneva
