In the KINAITICS project, we aim at exploring the new attack opportunities offered by the introduction of AI-based control & perceptive systems, as well as those offered by combination of behavioral understanding of physical systems & cyber-attacks.
On the defense side, we aim at offering an innovative spectrum of tools & methodologies, to combine behavioral monitoring & classical cybersecurity tools to protect against these new threats. Importantly, we also target innovative methodologies, which incorporate human factors & their uncertainties in the tools.

▪️The French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA)
Acts as a coordinator of the KINAITICS project. Two divisions are involved in the project: the Technological Research division is developing methods & software for cyberdefense against AI-based attacks & emerging attacks on cyber-physical systems. The Energies division is providing a use case devoted to cybersecurity of software tools against new AI-based cyber attacks.

▪️VICOMTECH
Focused on technological development & covers three different aspects. On the one hand, as coordinator of the work package that defines the interaction model & simulation of cyber-physical systems. on the other hand, VICOMTECH leads the task of incident response based on decision support systems and finally we contribute to the task related to analysis of cybersecurity of artificial intelligence models & systems.
The simulation & experimentation environment must cover four use cases defined & developed by other partners: security in healthcare, finance, simulation code and CBNR. Together, the work carried out by VICOMTECH will allow the definition of a flexible and secure environment for experimentation & validation of technologies in which attack & defense capabilities, that incorporate machine learning to adapt to environment changes, can be explored in the scope of the defined use cases.

In addition to developing the use case in the financial sector w/ Numera, Pluribus One has the leadership of WP7 on Dissemination, Communication & Exploitation, which has the goals of raising awareness for the research carried out within the project & promoting the scientific knowledge generated during it.

▪️ENGINEERING GROUP
ENG is the leader of WP4 “Defence strategies for AI systems empowerment”. It will also be responsible for D2.2 “Report on a threat-risk assessment framework in cyber-physical systems in the era of artificial intelligence” & it will contribute to the analysis of social engineering attacks. ENG will be responsible for the development of D4.1 “Tools for improved response based on autonomous AI detectors & defenders”. ENG will host the KINAITICS integration environment.

Involved in the definition of attack & defense scenarios applied to the healthcare processes, considering the strong presence of humans-in-the-loop as a critical factor to expose weak spots in the IT systems used for daily patients care.

DistriNet will assist in defining the use cases, in updating the threat-risk assessment framework, as well as provide its expertise w/ regard to AI attacks & defence strategies from a technical perspective.
CiTiP will act as the legal partner & will provide an extensive assessment of the legal & ethical framework that is applicable to the research & the tools that will be developed.
