On World Environment Day, Displaced International recognizes the growing link between environmental degradation, climate change, and forced displacement. Across the globe, floods, droughts, desertification, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events are destroying livelihoods, deepening vulnerabilities, and forcing millions of people from their homes.
“Climate change is no longer just an environmental challenge—it is a human security challenge. It is fueling instability, worsening displacement, and placing immense pressure on already vulnerable communities. As former refugees, internally displaced persons, and migrants ourselves, we know that protecting people requires protecting the environments on which their lives and livelihoods depend. Climate action, resilience, and displacement prevention must go hand in hand.”
— Ambassador Ashraf Haidari, Founder and President, Displaced International
On this World Environment Day, we call on governments, international organizations, donors, and civil society to invest in climate resilience, disaster preparedness, sustainable development, and community-led solutions that help people remain safely and sustainably in their homes whenever possible. Protecting our planet is inseparable from protecting human dignity, security, and the right to a future.
