Just some thoughts on HarmonyOS CodeArts
& Madao (MaDao) IDE
Was checking out the IDE booth at the Huawei
Developer Conference and spotted two MateBook
Pros showing off two different IDEs.
Madao is basically HarmonyOS's native PC IDE (it's
built on the new VS Code), and they've really focused
on getting Agents embedded into it. The engineer
from Huawei mentioned that the Agent's basic
prompt system is also based on OpenCode.
So I asked what makes it different from the original
CodeArts. The Huawei engineer explained that
CodeArts hasn't updated its VS Code version and is heavily customized for engineering work, with some
nice HarmonyOS adaptations for popular
programming language plugins. Madao, though,
keeps up with the latest VS Code version and is all
about that deep Agent integration, making it perfect
for AI-assisted light development.
Oh, and btw, check out P3 - HarmonyOS's native PC
version of IDEA (IntelliJ IDEA By JetBrains) EAP (Early Access Preview) is here too! - HDC 2026
