1 in 7 Americans face food insecurity, while the average family of four throws away over $3,000 worth of food each year. Nationally, surplus food carries an estimated value of $382 billion, around 1.4% of GDP, so tackling food waste is essential for U.S. climate action, food security, and economic resilience. The U.S. Food Waste Pact is co-founded and led by @ReFED and @WWF. Since its inception in 2023 the Pact has established a national platform for collective action, raising $2.1 million from donors to build momentum. Australia produces enough food to feed more than 75 million people, yet 7.6 million tonnes are wasted each year. Food loss and waste contributes substantially to national greenhouse gas emissions and costs the Australian economy an estimated $36.6 billion, while millions of Australians face rising food costs and food insecurity. Around 300,000 tonnes of food waste are sent to landfill in Aotearoa New Zealand every year. Food loss and waste is a critical environmental, social, and economic issue. Indonesia generates 23–48 million tonnes of food loss and waste annually. Food waste makes up 40% of national solid waste and contributes around 7% of the country’s total CO₂ emissions22, particularly methane from landfill. At the same time, food insecurity remains acute: more than 20 million Indonesians experience undernourishment and rising living costs further strain household access to nutritious food23. Around 20% of food in the Netherlands is wasted each year, equivalent to 92kg per person and contributing about 5% of the country’s national greenhouse gas emissions. A review meeting with Academic and Non-Academic staff members were held under the Chairpersonship of the Director, NCERT, on 11.07.2025 in the Conference Hall, NCERT, New Delhi. This was the monthly review meeting chaired by Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director NCERT, to assess the progress of academic and administrative work progress across various departments. The discussion focused on the implementation of NEP 2020, highlighting the completion of textbooks for Classes 4, 5, 7, and 8 and setting a target to complete the remaining textbooks in a time bound manner. The translation of textbooks into all 22 scheduled languages was emphasized for linguistic inclusivity. The meeting stressed the development of Teacher Handbooks and Annotated Editions, launching the NISHTHA training program, boosting research paper development, and expediting the Jaadui Pitara implementation and patent process. Strengthening RIEs and DM Schools as PM SHRI Schools, installing display boards, organizing PTMs, and introducing new courses and programs were also discussed. For administrative reforms, measures like transparent recruitment, promotions, CGHS facilities, and filling vacant positions for non-teaching staff were highlighted.
