Eight years of action. One shared legacy. A couple of weeks ago, we closed the UK Plastics Pact - sharing its legacy with members. Our brilliant team of specialists brought together the evidence, insights and tools behind that progress into one place. Not just targets. Not just commitments. But real, tangible changes to the packaging we see on shelves today. The UK Plastics Pact Knowledge Hub captures the stories, progress and practical resources developed over eight years - all designed to be used and built on. Here are just a few of those stories - for the full picture, explore the Knowledge Hub: bit.ly/3WVQLEs Keep an eye out next week as we share more on the next chapter... #UKPlasticsPact #UKPackagingPact #PreventProblemPlastics #CircularEconomy #CircularLiving

Shifting from single-use to reusable and refillable packaging models presents one of the biggest opportunities to reduce packaging waste at scale, and is crucial to reducing our reliance on raw materials. Reuse and refill will be a key element of our UK Packaging Pact goals and we're working with businesses to help them identify opportunities to move from single use plastics to reuse and refill packaging on across a range of products. See how the Recycle Now Refill Locator aims to reduce the barrier to trying refill: bit.ly/483nZqS #UKPackagingPact #ReuseAndRefill #Reuse #Refill #PreventProblemPlastics #Blog

7 days left to become a founding signatory of the UK Packaging Pact. The countdown to the launch of the UK Packaging Pact is on - building on the success of the UK Plastics Pact to tackle the whole packaging system. We’ve seen what’s possible when the whole value chain moves together. Did you know our members removed 20,000 tonnes of unrecyclable black plastic from supermarket shelves in 3 years? This is now saving them ££££'s in EPR fees. Final opportunity for your business to join as a founding signatory and help shape what comes next for packaging circularity in the UK. bit.ly/4a9EvHw #UKPackagingPact #UKPlasticsPact #PreventProblemPlastics

ICYMI - our recycling and plastics expert Adam Herriott spoke with @thetimes about what changes under #SimplerRecycling will mean for many people in England - one of them will be happening in your bathroom. bit.ly/4qvpnd9 With 252 million toothpaste tubes being purchased in the UK each year, we've helped switch plastic-aluminium-plastic for a mono material, so now the second most #wishcycled item is now 100% recyclable. 77 local authorities in England now collect these as part of their kerbside service - but with Simpler Recycling these will become part of the plastic items required to be collected. Check @Recycle_Now's Recycling Locator to see whether you can already recycle toothpaste tubes at home. #RecycleNow #PreventProblemPlastics #UKPlasticsPact #UKPackagingPact #EliminateProblemPlastics #CircularEconomy #CircularLiving

We recently shared that the #PlasticPact Network has been named a winner of the @wef GAEA Award - recognising collaborative systems change that benefits people, nature, and climate. Together, we’ve eliminated more than 360,000 tonnes of problematic and unnecessary plastics, prevented billions of items from polluting the environment, and enabled major increases in recycled content in several countries - showing how voluntary, cross-sector action can deliver measurable impact. This award recognises that the power of this Network lies in its people: our Pact teams, partners, participants, and communities driving change every day. Thank you for your leadership and commitment. In Latin America, flexible plastics like sachets, wrappers, and films are among the biggest contributors to ocean-bound waste. We are relaunching a programme to find and scale 10 breakthrough ideas that directly tackle this challenge. Through the Plastics Pact Network, governments, businesses, and communities in Colombia, Chile, and Mexico are already advancing a circular economy for plastics. Now, we’re inviting innovators to help accelerate that momentum by offering them the chance to receive hands on support from WRAP and the Plastics Pact Network and the opportunity to receive a ten thousand US dollar award to help advance their solutions. Barely a week into September and we've already passed this year's Plastic Overshoot Day, reports @letsrecycle. Friday 5th September 2025 marked the date when humanity’s plastic waste generation surpasses the planet’s capacity to manage it, according to research by EA - Earth Action. letsrecycle.com/news/global-… 45% of GHGs can only be tackled by changing the way we make and consume products and food. Only through #CircularLiving we can achieve higher standards of living by using our precious resources more intelligently — tackling climate change, protecting nature, and reducing inequality. #PlasticOvershootDay #PreventProblemPlastics #CircularEconomy

Kerbside flexible plastic recycling is popular with the UK public and can be collected and sorted through existing processing sites at scale, reports @PackNews. This encouraging news comes as results of recycling trials by ten local authorities who piloted the kerbside collections, as part of the Flexible Plastic Fund's #FlexCollect Project, have been published. packagingnews.co.uk/news/mat… The project was aligned with the #UKPlasticsPact Roadmap 2025, and collections of flexible plastics are expected to become mandatory in England by 2027 as part of the simpler recycling reforms. By using our precious resources more intelligently we can create a world with higher standards of living — tackling climate change, protecting nature, and reducing inequality. #PreventProblemPlastics #CircularLiving

Today is the start of INC-5.2 - the second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding global treaty to address plastic pollution. We hope to see governments unite behind a robust treaty with strong obligations and legally binding rules that address the full lifecycle of plastics - we can't afford to miss this moment. But whatever the outcome, one thing is clear: the transition to a circular economy is already underway. Through the Plastics Pact Network action is already happening on the ground - uniting businesses, governments and civil society to turn ambition into measurable impact. This is what treaty delivery looks like in practice - and a bold agreement will help unlock the investment and coordination needed to scale these proven solutions. #INC5 #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #PreventProblemPlastics #CircularLiving #PlasticsPactNetwork

With just weeks to go until global plastics treaty negotiations resume, this week @Newsweek brought together environmental experts for a virtual event to discuss the state of the plastics issue and how the global community is coming together to help solve it. The panellists were optimistic that the next meeting will yield positive and impactful results. newsweek.com/experts-hopeful… But we believe the need for a high-ambition treaty is more urgent than ever - and while discussions continue, action on the ground cannot wait. Through the #PlasticsPactNetwork, we're helping mobilise over 900 organisations in 19 countries across the globe, aiming to eliminate problematic plastics, scale up solutions, and drive systemic change through #VoluntaryAction. Yet, a global treaty remains essential to unlock the investment and scale needed to expand impact. As INC-5.2 approaches, our message is clear: We need a strong global treaty - and continued local action. #INC5.2 #GlobalPlasticsTreaty #PreventProblemPlastics #CircularLiving
