COMP110 was a weed IN class for me! Had never written a line of code other than basic HTML and now I do it for a living.

I do know you won't find what you think in BIOL101, though, which you targeted. You won't find it in COMP110, either. Most intro instructors go to great lengths to build courses that are the opposite of weed out. Speaking as one of them, this piece was quite demoralizing.

I need to etch in "& Team110" on this one-- I'm lucky to work with such a diverse group of UTAs who have co-created COMP110 into the inclusive and welcoming introduction to computer science course it aims to be. Thanks for the recognition UNC's @OUTinSTEM 🌈 chapter!
The UNC chapter of @OUTinSTEM is hosting our first DEI teaching awards this afternoon. Come get tips for inclusive teaching and celebrate the nominees and winners! (3:30 p.m. - In the Bell Tower amphitheater next to the Sonja Hayes Stone Center and Genome Sciences)#STEMeducation

COMP110 was redesigned this past year to serve as an on-ramp course into the Data Science Minor. It counts as one of the five required components of this minor!

Based in @unccollege but open to all undergraduates, the new data science minor launching in fall 2021 will introduce methods and applications that are used in basic and applied sciences, the humanities, social sciences and other disciplines. Read more: go.unc.edu/Ce9f8

I plan to continue with the 50/50 async split in the Fall with COMP110. Thinking of making async days something akin to "lab" days where students can come do work in the lecture hall and having a cast of UTAs available for questions / discussion.

Took the same strategy in COMP110 this past Fall, and again this Spring, with very similar sentiments. Hoping to continue some async days in the future. For some material and lessons, it's just better to move through individually and at own pace than in a big lecture hall.

Having taught CS1/COMP110 in Java my first two years, I fully agree: Java is a hostile learning environment. I wish AP CS A would move on. A teaching language needs plain-old functions and should require minimal boilerplate for simple examples, as well.

got my study block 1 results today... got a 1st in COMP110 and a 2:1 in GAM110 and COMP120. overall, i'm pleased with my results need to average 70 marks across the year to score a 1st for the year. i'm hopeful

Proud of the work my undergraduate teaching assistants and I put in to get here. It's still very early days for #comp110. We're just getting started!
Carolina has honored 25 faculty members and teaching assistants with the 2021 University Teaching Awards, including 18 in the College: unc.live/3sGPMHu

FDOC sections of #comp110 started at 3:30 and 5:00 on. Not me spilling water all over my desk, keyboard, and feet in the middle of the second section causing keys to fire rapidly at random. #positivevibes2021 #bestillmyheart #teachingiscardio

I'm pretty certain this was advice you suggested we include on an opening day slide in comp110. 😎 It can be hard to walk away.
Important lesson re-learned today. After a while of hacking at a problem you're just getting less efficient and frustrated. It's really just better to go walk and think about what you're doing instead of staying heads-down

Wow. 560 students (84% of enrolled!) came for 1-on-1 help in 6,218 "zoom-in appointments" in my courses this Fall. Incredible lift from my UTA team! In COMP110 that's a 78% increase over appts last Fall w/same # seats. Reduced friction to resources increases utilization.

Thanks for the shoutout @KrisJordan! I wouldn't have ever gone into CS if not for you and #comp110. Thank you for being such an advocate for women in tech.
Which of these Software Engineers speaking at the 2020 Kubernetes edgeconference.io is not like the others? So proud to see @KateGoldenring, a #comp110 and @unccs alumna, repping for @Microsoft 😀 #womenintech #WomenLeaders #GoHeels #risingstar

Phase 1 of a big #COMP110 redesign rolled out this Fall with a bigger emphasis on the applications of computation in data analysis. Still four weeks to go, but feeling optimistic receiving this email out of the blue...

Sophomore Ibrahim Shakhtour didn't originally plan on uploading his COMP110 project to TikTok. But the morning after he posted it, he woke up to find his TikTok had gone viral. The 59-second video has garnered around 862.6K views in less than a week. bit.ly/3mJBu5G
