The Government has officially appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth (PVSM, UYSM, AVSM), currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, as our next Chief of the Army Staff. He will take over the reins on the afternoon of June 30, 2026, succeeding General Upendra Dwivedi upon his retirement. Commissioned into the Armoured Corps in 1986, Lt Gen Seth brings nearly four decades of extraordinary strategic and operational experience. From commanding an Armoured Brigade in the Western Theatre and a Counter-Insurgency Force in J&K, to leading the premier Sudarshan Chakra Corps, his field expertise is unmatched. He also holds the rare distinction of having commanded two operational Army Commands—the South Western and Southern Commands—over a period of two and a half years. Beyond his operational brilliance, Lt Gen Seth is a true scholar-warrior. He has been deeply instrumental in shaping the Indian Army's modernization trajectory, force management, and capability roadmap at the headquarters.
