Chapter 9: The Duckmobile and the Lesson of Value
That day, as the golden afternoon light washed over Patus's studio, he went out for a walk to clear his head after hours of staring at digital canvases and sketches. That’s when he saw it.
Sitting on the ground, oblivious to market trends or design schemes meant to "hook" users, was a small duckling. He was completely absorbed, surrounded by colored building blocks. With absolute concentration, the little one was assembling something that followed no style guide.
Patus approached in silence and observed the creation. It was a strange and wonderful object: a white and gray base, oversized rubber wheels, and crowning the work, a blue piece with the pixelated face of a duck.
It was the "Duckmobile."
The little duckling wasn't thinking about the price of the blocks. He didn't care if the design was "minimalist" or if the Duckmobile would be a bestseller tomorrow. In his head, in his personal universe, what he was building had no economic meaning. He wasn't seeking the approval of an algorithm. He was just building. He was creating value.
And in that moment, Patus understood everything.
As a designer, he had always felt the pressure to create things that "looked" valuable so others would buy them. But looking at that imperfect toy, he felt absolute clarity: he no longer wanted to raid other ducks with empty designs that served no purpose. He no longer wanted to sell "aesthetic smoke."
He only wanted to create something with value, not a price.
Something that, in the eyes of others, might make no sense. But something with soul, like that Duckmobile. Because things with soul don't pursue a price. They don't need promises of "getting rich" to be beautiful. They don't seek to be an investment.
They just are. Nothing more.
Patus smiled, tucked his digital pen into his pocket, and stayed there for a while, simply watching how real value is built piece by piece, without the need for the whole world to applaud.
