In 2021, driven by the vision to create a digitally inclusive ecosystem, we, in collaboration with the @MastercardFdn, launched the #DigitalEconomyProgram. This initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide in underserved areas and reach last-mile communities. Now in its third year, the program has made significant strides, including the graduation of three Technology Solution Partners (@HamweEastAfrica, @MobiPayAgroSys and #Servicescorp) from the #CommunityPass Sandbox, with plans to credential over 500,000 farmers with a digital footprint by December 2024. This year, the program intends to prioritize three key areas: access to markets (inputs and off-take), access to financial services (savings, loans, and digital payments), and enhancing our partners' institutional capacity. By December 2024, we aim to reach 500,000 participants and create 61,000 employment opportunities for youth in the agriculture, education, and health sectors. #AgricShow24 Smallholder farmers make up approximately 89% of Uganda’s farming population and produce up to 80% of the nation's total agricultural output. Despite their crucial role, these smallholder farmers, especially those in last-mile communities, often face significant challenges in accessing modern farming equipment, machinery, and digital resources to enhance their productivity. This digital divide hampers their productivity and limits their ability to fully contribute to the country’s economic growth and improve their standard of living and that is why the #DigitalEconomyProgram was built. #TheDigitalEconomyDay at #AgricShow24 has come to an end and has brought to light key areas of focus as the agricultural sector advances to technology adoption!
