Gen AI Makes Legal Action Cheap — and Companies Need to Prepare @HarvardBiz hbr.org/2024/10/gen-ai-makes… Shows how #LLM could dramatically increase the number of legal filings, and impact of that. This is the opposite of #DoLessLaw It's @DoMoreLaw, but not in the way @nwaisb meant

NDAs are too easy - it's hard to find anyone who will publically argue that this is a sane use of everyone's time. What we need is to combine #DoLessLaw with @CarrNext's 4th wave. Do the things needed to get rid of future problems. Not just less, but focussed on purpose.

Ought being the operative word? @Gartner_inc #GartnerLegal data shows in-house counsel overestimate risk so overwork matters. #LLM will allow overwork, but faster. Query: how can #LLM enable #DoLessLaw?

A cool #LLM use case by @damienriehl #DoLessLaw by making the law more readily understandable
Turns out #GPT4 helps understand/simplify statutory language: In #lawschool, my prof — a non-technical person — suggested breaking down #statutes into IF THEN statements. It's helpful to conceptualize [poorly drafted/structured] statutes GPT-4 does really well at this!

I continue to be stunned by poor drafting I see in legal documents. Simpler more concise language would often be easier for the drafter the reader. Is the root cause lack of skill, laziness, false notion that 'complex is better', or other? #DoLessLaw

Revisiting “Good Enough” in Contract Drafting @AdamsDrafting adamsdrafting.com/revisiting… Prompted by Tweets re ChatGPT LLM, Ken worries that 'Good Enough" is costly in hard to interpret K, but in one respect - not negotiating every point to death - it's good. Agree. #DoLessLaw

The inimitably great @HoraceWu at @LegalTechHub1 Conference: Great use case: Law firm finds potential violations of businesses' legal rights — and reaches out to them, saying "Might you like our help with this problem?" Converse of #DoLessLaw — "Do more law that clients need."

Reminds me of document retention guidelines — overly complex, designed by those in the status quo to maintain the status quo. #Decomplexify #DoLessLaw #NextLaw

Outside counsel guidelines should not have obvious clauses, eg: How to perform a conflicts check Explanations of ethical rules No work until retention agreement #iltacon2022 - Reminds me of a similar theme: #DoLessLaw

I get this — I’d refocus a bit to make lawyers more relevant, more cost effective, more accessible in prevention of legal problems — in other words, what we need are Counsellors Not Lawyers. In @ronfriedmann’s words, #DoLessLaw. In mine, #NextLaw — less law with more impact.

Agree and we need more voices talking about #DoLessLaw, eg, prevention, scoping, budgeting, productized embedded systems, etc
