LAHORE: Animal rights organisations in Lahore accused local authorities of violating court orders by allegedly continuing the killing of stray dogs despite the Punjab government’s approved TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Release) policy.
Speaking at a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, activists said the Lahore High Court had approved the TNVR policy in 2021 to control stray dog populations through sterilisation and vaccination instead of killing the animals.
Animal rights activist Aafia Khan alleged that captured dogs were being killed instead of being vaccinated and released. Advocate Altamash Saeed said government departments were failing to implement the policy despite the formation of official committees.
Jamaat-e-Islami Public Aid Committee Lahore President Qaiser Sharif said killing dogs was not a permanent solution and demanded proper implementation of the TNVR programme along with rescue shelters and a helpline.
The organisations urged the Punjab government to stop the alleged dog-killing campaign and investigate complaints of harassment against animal rights activists.

Beautiful portrait of you and your dog. This unique bond and happiness is what life is all about 🙏🏻🐶❤️. Loving one another even if it is an animal. Perhaps even more so. The defenceless & the 🌍 need protecting.
🙏🏻🌱❤️

Not all dogs will protect you in an attack! 🐕 Some breeds like German Shepherds have guard instincts, but protection depends on temperament & training. Dogs may deter attackers with their presence or bark, but training is key for defense. #DogProtection#PetSafety
We are thrilled to share some great news today!
After supporting a client whose dog was stolen and later recovered in our care, the police have arrested and charged the individual responsible with robbery. 🐾⚖️
Today, I provided my statement in support of the case, as I was involved from the very beginning—thankfully, the dog’s microchip had our details on it, allowing us to step in quickly.
It’s a huge relief to know that the police take these cases seriously, recognizing the deep impact theft has on both the pet and the owner.
We’re hopeful that the person responsible will face a strong sentence, and we are so grateful that the dog is now safe and sound.
A big thank you to the police for their swift action and dedication! 🙏🐶🧡
