Abia State just took a major step forward for survivor support.
Today, 18 February 2026, Abia will inaugurate its first Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Nchedo SARC, located at Aba General Hospital, with support from the EU funded Rule of Law and Anti Corruption Programme (ROLAC).
Nchedo SARC will provide a coordinated response for survivors, backed by the Abia State Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection and guided by a SARC Steering Committee that brings together key line ministries, including Justice, Health, and Women Affairs.
A Memorandum of Understanding will also be signed at the launch to define roles, strengthen collaboration, and keep the centre running effectively.
Even better, SARC personnel have already been trained by ROLAC and are receiving ongoing mentoring to strengthen service delivery.
This is what progress looks like when systems are built to respond.
If you are in Abia, know this: support is closer than it has ever been.
