𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 gets reply from tech expert Neeraj Walia A viral video from a recent protest has triggered a debate on the security of India's 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗩𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 (𝗘𝗩𝗠𝘀). In the clip, a protester at Cockroach Janta Party protest, claimed that he could hack EVMs by simply fixing “three syntax errors” in the code. According to him, the process would be easy and could be done without much difficulty. The statement quickly attracted attention online, with many users questioning whether the claim made any technical sense. The video spread across social media platforms, leading to discussions among programmers, engineers, and political commentators. 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗷 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺 Among those who reacted was content creator and tech expert 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗷 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮. Responding to the viral statement, he argued that the protester appeared to misunderstand what a 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗘𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 actually is. Walia pointed out that a syntax error is a basic coding mistake that is normally detected during software development. In most programming environments, software containing syntax errors cannot be successfully compiled or built into a working program. Because of this, he argued that a device running software would not typically contain unresolved syntax errors in the first place. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜𝘀 𝗔 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗘𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿? A 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗘𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 occurs when code does not follow the rules of a programming language. Common examples include missing brackets, incorrect punctuation, or invalid commands. Such errors are usually caught before software is deployed on a machine. However, cybersecurity experts often note that a system can still contain 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘄𝘀, 𝘃𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, or security weaknesses even when it has no syntax errors. Python needs: 🔹 A runtime environment 🔹 Libraries 🔹 Memory management 🔹 Usually an operating system Indian EVMs have NONE of that. They're tiny battery-powered embedded devices with no operating system. The logic is converted into machine code and programmed into special chips. 💀 Saying Indian EVMs run Python is like saying Windows runs on a calculator. Aregbesola: Nigerians Can Get Election Results Within Three Hours If INEC Fully Adopts Technology Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has said election results in Nigeria can be available within three hours if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fully embraces advanced technology. Speaking during a panel discussion on Innovation in Electoral Technology 2015–2025, Aregbesola cited examples from countries such as Brazil, Venezuela, Israel, and Ghana, where technology-driven electoral systems enable faster and more transparent results. He challenged INEC to demonstrate how its result monitoring module functions and explain why Nigerians still face delays despite technological advancements.
