I feel like everyone loves Kahneman and sleeps on Tetlock. I'll over-personalize this (because this is Twitter and I have 6 followers) – Tucker’s Farm was a chaotic place to grow up. Not in a dark ‘Running With Scissors’ sort of way (awesome memoir but heavy). More of a ‘my-dad-is-a-hippy-and-our-remotes-never-have-battery-covers’ sort of way. (or a ‘we-have-a-Rastafarian-living-in-the-goat-shed’ sort of way - this is true. To this day.) Loving but bananas. So I’ve naturally reacted to this in how I’ve built my business. (X/podcast folks will recognize the David Senra-ism ‘the story of the father is embedded in the son’ – I think Francis Ford Coppola originally) Specifically, everything in my business is highly organized, systematic, consistent (and I like to think aesthetic!). Not chaotic. Especially underwriting. Everything we do is based on Philip Tetlock’s stuff (which just made so much sense to me then and now). (id est decision architecture, base rates, pattern recognition, pre-mortems, and checklists/filters...never met a conditionally formatted scorecard I didn't like! etc.) Below is filter for a thesis/storefront we put on ice (we felt there just wasn’t enough spread in MSPs).
