🚨 FDA Maharashtra Cracks Down on Misleading Beauty Products Across the State 🚨
After taking action against illegal medicines, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra has now turned its focus to the beauty and cosmetics sector, launching a statewide enforcement drive against misleading and non-compliant products.
🔹 In Karad, Satara district, cosmetics worth ₹29.45 lakh were prohibited after inspections revealed missing or inadequate details such as batch numbers, manufacturing dates, and manufacturer information.
🔹 In Mumbai’s Crawford Market, authorities seized cosmetics worth ₹1.20 lakh that carried misleading claims such as “Breast Enlargement,” “Butt Enhancement,” and “Fat Burner.”
🔹 A raid at an establishment in Kandivali West, Mumbai, led to the seizure of cosmetics, raw materials, and machinery worth ₹3.96 lakh, where manufacturing was allegedly being carried out without the required licences.
📊 Total value of products acted against across Maharashtra: ₹34.61 lakh
The inspections highlighted serious regulatory concerns, including:
✔️ Incomplete or missing product information on labels
✔️ Misleading marketing claims targeting consumers
✔️ Manufacturing activities without mandatory licences
✔️ Potential violations of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940
Legal action has been initiated against the concerned entities under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
This statewide crackdown sends a strong message on consumer safety, product transparency, and regulatory compliance in the rapidly growing cosmetics and personal care industry.
